Arsenal exit moves a step close as Huddersfield boss claims deal could be done today

Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley says the club are closing on multiple transfer deals amid reports Arsenal youngster Emile Smith-Rowe could sign with them. The 19-year old has made six first-team appearances this season and been a regular on the bench.

Smith-Rowe, a member of England’s World Cup winner under-17’s squad, is highly rated at the Emirates.

And Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is keen for Smith-Rowe to get further first-team experience to aid his development.

In 2019, the teenager spent the second half of last season at RB Leipzig.

But he was restricted to just 28 minutes of playing time due to injury.

It was reported earlier this week that Huddersfield was keen on signing Smith-Rowe.

And Cowley has confirmed they are close to making an announcement on some deals.

He said: “I think we’re close with one or two and we’re really hoping to give some good news to the Town supporters as soon as we can.

“I’ve been there as a supporter myself on the edge of my seat and we’re really hoping to give some good news in the next couple of hours rather than days.

Arteta said: “We are assessing the situation with three of them. “Evaluating the offers from various clubs, which will suit them more, and if it’s the right time to make that step.

“In the next few days, we will tell you what happens with them.

“With Eddie, I’m very impressed. He has become a much more competitive player at Leeds.

“The decision to make now is whether to send him out again for another five months to realise his potential ready for next season or keep him. It’s something we have to discuss.”
