Tesla achieved strong success with the Model X and Model 3 both stealing awards for the safest road vehicles of the year. Tesla’s Model 3 stormed to victory in Euro NCAP’s large family car and hybrid and electric categories.
The Model 3 was rated five stars after scoring an impressive 96 percent in the adult occupant safety test and 86 percent for child protection.
Elon Musk’s Model X design won the best large off-road vehicle award after scoring even higher crash test results.
The Model X recorded a score of 98 percent in the adult occupant safety test and an impressive 94 percent in the safety assist category which records the effectiveness of the vehicle’s crash-avoidance technology.
Tesla had a bumper year for sales in 2019 with data showing the company tripled its deliveries in 2019 compared to just two years ago.

Mercedes CLA model won the best small family car award after achieving a score higher than 90 percent in three of the four safety areas.
The car scored highly for adult and child occupant safety and pedestrian protection but fell behind in the safety technology category.
The model was one of six Mercedes which achieved a five-star Euro NCAP crash test result in 2019 as the German manufacturer showed off its excellent crash protection structures.
Subaru’s new Forester was awarded the best small off-road vehicle in 2019 after impressive all-round scores across all EuroNCAP tests.
The new vehicle achieved a five-star rating after scoring over 90 percent for adult and child occupant safety and over 80 percent for pedestrian protection.
Mazda’s new CX-30 finished runner-up in the category despite breaking Euro NCAP records earlier this year for achieving for the highest individual category score ever seen.
The CX-30 scored a massive 99 percent on the adult occupant safety test but fell behind in child safety and new technology.
Thatcham Research’s Mathew Avery said: “This is a truly impressive result. The Mazda CX-30 is a mainstream vehicle, available at an affordable price point performing at the highest level in impact testing.
“In the event of an accident, there are few safer places to be than the front seats of the Mazda CX-30.
“The structure of the vehicle and the performance of its restraints are key. Especially in the side pole test which encourages carmakers to fit side-curtain airbags to protect occupants’ heads in a collision.”
The Audi A1 was found to be the safest supermini tested by EuroNCAP in 2019 after high scores across all categories.
Adult safety was scored at 95 percent but the car dropped results for pedestrian protection with a score of 75 percent.
The Renault Clio was a joint winner in the supermini category after scoring an identical overall score.
The French manufacturer scored higher in the adult and child safety tests but fell behind the Audi for safety technology and pedestrian safety.
