Rangers boss Steven Gerrard eyes Liverpool transfer in January after failed summer bid

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hopes he can land Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane in the January transfer window after they failed in their attempts to sign the midfielder last summer.

According to Football Insider, Gerrard believes Kane could help the club in their push for the Scottish Premiership title and wants to bring the player to Ibrox in January.

The good news for Gerrard is that the report claims Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for Kane.

However, before Rangers add to their squad they will be looking to sell several of their fringe players.

Express Sport understands winger Jamie Murphy and midfielders Greg Docherty and Matt Polster will be allowed to leave in the upcoming transfer window.

“The away ties in Europe, in particular, have helped to show them how we need to look when we’re away from home and the discipline we need to show.

“Hibs will cause us certain problems over the 90 minutes, but if we can perform as well as we have in Europe then we’ll be fine.

“Yes, it is a five-point gap at the top, but we have a game in hand at home to Ross County and we are confident we could win that, given the form we’re in.”
