While awaiting the result of the House vote, Mr Trump told a campaign rally in Michigan: “While we’re creating jobs and fighting for Michigan, the radical left in Congress is consumed with envy and hatred and rage.”
Nearly all of the Democrats voted in favour of the charges, while every Republican voted against them.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said following the impeachment: “No one is above the law.”
