BT takes on Sky with a brand new way to watch and stream TV

BT is taking the fight to Sky with the launch of a TV plan called the Sport Monthly Pass. This new contract-free option, which is similar to Sky’s NOW TV service, allows sports fans to tune in and watch the action without having to sign up to a lengthy and expensive subscription.

BT says this new plan is available from today for just £25 per month and offers access to every UEFA Champions League match exclusively live, weekly live clashes from the Premier League, action from Gallagher Premiership Rugby every weekend, top-class Saturday night boxing and more.

And there’s another bonus of the Monthly Pass — customers will also be able to enjoy the BT Sport Ultimate channel at no extra cost. As long as you have a compatible device, BT Sport Ultimate broadcasts selected programming in 4K UHD and High Dynamic Range (HDR).

Speaking about the update Marketing Director for BT Consumer Division, Pete Oliver said: “BT Sport Monthly Pass means that customers can sign up on a flexible monthly basis for the first time and make the most of all the fantastic live sport that we have to offer. And with BT Sport Ultimate included, we’re giving customers the very best possible viewing experience. Monthly Pass forms part of BT’s ambition to offer BT Sport customers’ unrivalled choice and the highest quality broadcasts on even more devices and platforms.”

JUST IN: Your BT broadband could get FIVE TIMES faster with this FREE speed boost

If this new plan sounds like it ticks your boxes, BT Sport Monthly Pass is available via the BT Sport App on iOS, iPadOS and Android devices, online via btsport.com, Sony PlayStation 4, Apple TV, Samsung smart TVs, Xbox One and Chromecast.

Anyone purchasing a BT Sport Monthly Pass today will be able to watch the following over the upcoming month:

Premier League: 14 live matches including all nine matches from the New Year’s Day fixture list which includes Arsenal v Manchester United.

UEFA Europa League: follow live and exclusive coverage of the final group stage games involving Manchester United, Arsenal, Wolves, Rangers and Celtic.

WWE: BT Sport becomes the new home of WWE in the UK and Ireland from January.

Emirates FA Cup: four live clashes from the third round of the world’s oldest domestic cup competition including Wolves v Manchester United and Spurs’ trip to Middlesbrough.

Rugby: BT Sport is the home of domestic and European club rugby, with exclusively live coverage of Gallagher Premiership Rugby and every match from two further rounds of the Heineken Champions Cup before mid-January.

Of course, if you’re not bothered about watching on the big screen — or simply fancy saving a few pennies around Christmas, EE customers can still get access to BT Sport via an Add-On to their existing monthly plan, which works out much cheaper than £25 a month. Although, you won’t be able to stream on your Chromecast or PS4.

This latest BT update comes as Sky has just announced some deals on its NOW TV platform which makes watching the service a lot cheaper.

Movie fans can currently get 40 percent off the six-month Sky Cinema Pass with prices starting from £42.99.

There’s also a deal on Sky Sports which is now just £20 a month for the next two months rather than the usual £33.99.
