Liverpool transfer blow

Liverpool target Jadon Sancho will not be agitating for a January transfer away from Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds have looked at the England winger as an option to supplement their all-star front three.

Jurgen Klopp will have to bide his time over a potential deal for the former Manchester City fledgling though.

The Athletic report Sancho’s representatives have told The Athletic he will not seek to force a move in the next window.

Man Utd wanted two more

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel says former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the Red Devils to buy two more players over the summer.

“He only managed to sign three players in the summer – Harry Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, and I thought they were good signings,” 1999 Champions League winner Schmeichel said.

“But I think he wanted two more players – that didn’t happen.

“But at the same time he also wanted certain players out, a number of players out, in order to recreate the atmosphere and the identity of Manchester United and infuse the culture into the dressing room again, because that’s gone out because there’s been absolutely no focus on that for years.”

Chelsea stay explained

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has lifted the lid on why he snubbed transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“Sometimes we do not necessarily know where we want to go,” Kante told Canal+. “But we know what we have. I know I was in Chelsea and I was good there.

“If I did not want to come to PSG it was more a sporting choice. I felt good in London, in the project and I was happy to stay there.”

Kante is regarded as one of the planet’s top defensive midfielders and has previously been eyed by Real Madrid as well.

Newcastle scouting missions

Newcastle are looking at Flamengo hotshot Gabriel Barbosa as an option to bolster Steve Bruce’s floundering attack.

The Magpies forward line have failed to make their mark this season, with £40m Joelinton yet to justify his price tag.

The summer signing could be joined on Tyneside by a Brazilian compatriot come January, with Barbosa in Newcastle’s sights.

The Chronicle report Newcastle are keeping tabs on the striker, who scored a brace in last weekend’s Copa Libertadores final victory.

Everton sack prediction

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher reckons Everton boss Marco Silva has two games to save his job at Goodison Park.

“The tough run of games is keeping him in the job,” Carragher said. “Last year, he had a good run in tough fixtures.

“But also, if you were bringing a new manager into the job, you wouldn’t want to give him that to start with.

“I think Marco Silva will have the Leicester game and the Liverpool game [to save his job].

“We know how significant the Liverpool game is for everyone at Everton, and if that goes badly I fail to see how they move on from that.”

Mauricio Pochettino to Man Utd

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has admitted Mauricio Pochettino might be the man to lead his old club Manchester United forward.

“Personally, two and a half years ago when Louis van Gaal got sacked by Manchester United, I said Mauricio Pochettino should have been appointed before Jose Mourinho,” Neville said.

“I can’t sit here now and say he [Pochettino] won’t be the right person for the football club.

“But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed eight months ago, the club have taken a different track.”

Leeds transfer talked up

Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan believes Marcelo Bielsa needs to get a deal done Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster.

“I’d love him at Leeds,” Whelan, who spent two seasons with the Whites in the 1990s, told Football Insider. “He is young, hungry, exciting, well spoken about by Jurgen Klopp.

“If we could pull that deal out of the bag in January, wow, perfect. It would be a great deal for us. He would offer something a bit different to what we’ve already got.

“We need strength in depth up front. Two senior strikers, Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah, is not enough for a Championship campaign.”

Arsenal sacking compensation

Arsenal will have to fork out a little over £4m if they dispense with Unai Emery before the 2019/20 campaign comes to a close.

The beleaguered Spaniard spoke to Gunners chiefs on Sunday – immediately after the 2-2 draw with Southampton which left him even more under the cosh.

Now Arsenal are considering their options, with a whole host of big-name bosses and emerging coaches tipped to replace Emery if he goes.

The Daily Mail report it will cost Arsenal just over £4m in compensation if they sack Emery – while his backroom staff would need paying off too.

Everton star wants boss gone

Former Premier League and England star Paul Robinson reckons Moise Kean will be desperate for Marco Silva to leave Everton.

“Kean isn’t getting a chance, which obviously his disciplinary record off the pitch has been a problem,” Robinson said.

“But he’s still not getting a look in as he’s back on the bench, but not coming on. They’re a side who need goals and pace, and you’ve got goals and pace right there.

“Whether the differences between the two of them are too much to put aside for the good of the side, remains to be seen.

“But I think Moise Kean, as well as lots of Everton fans, will be looking forward to seeing the back of Marco Silva.”

Celtic transfer battle

Celtic face a scrap with a number of Premier League clubs for the signature of Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama, claims ex-Leeds and England ace Danny Mills.

“There’s plenty of clubs that will be interested in his signature, to have that solid defensive midfield player,” Mills told Football Insider. “Teams anywhere from seventh down in the Premier League are thinking ‘Oh yes, he can do a job for us’.

“If not, he’ll maybe go somewhere in Europe or further afield. He’s still a very, very good player and that’s the other thing Mourinho’s going to have to do, get a few out.

“Daniel Levy, there might be a little bit of a warchest but he’s still going to have to balance the squad and get a bit of money back in, so getting players out is going to be part of his remit as well.”

Barcelona relationship update

Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has admitted he’s still getting to know Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez having joined the Catalan giants in the summer.

“I am really shy and I have trouble going to talk to others,” Griezmann said. “I am not the type of person who will start the conversation, I am too shy.

“Luis, Leo and I know each other. We have dinner together and our relationship can only progress over time.

“It is obvious that what can happen on the grass can only help us feel comfortable when we play.”

West Ham make Manuel Pellegrini demand

West Ham have told Manuel Pellegrini to shape up or ship out following the Hammers’ latest Premier League defeat at the hands of Tottenham.

Pellegrini is under serious pressure having been given a boatload of cash but failed to deliver the results expected of him.

Express Sport can reveal the West Ham board have given Pellegrini time to turn things around – but he will have to do so sharpish.

West Ham issued the ultimatum as they held crisis talks with Pellegrini, who has not seen his Hammers side win since September 22.

Rangers transfer worry

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be actively concerned about the oncoming January transfer window as it may see Alfredo Morelos leave.

That’s the verdict of former Premier League forward Noel Whelan, who said: “Privately, Gerrard has to be worried now, and that will be the same until the January window shuts.

“Premier League clubs have the money to afford Morelos. Goalscorers are rare commodities.

“I’m not sure what the Rangers board will do, but money often talks in these situations.”

Chelsea spending spree

Chelsea president Bruce Buck has opened the door to the Blues engaging in a transfer frenzy if their ban is overturned next month.

“I understand what you are saying and it is hard to disprove it, except to say: ‘Let’s see what happens in the next transfer window’,” Buck told The Guardian.

“The point I am making – it’s a glib one – if we go out in the next window and spend a zillion, it’s pretty hard to argue that things are on hold.”

Chelsea will discover next month if their appeal against the suspension which has stopped them signing players since January has been successful.

Liverpool transfer ultimatum

Liverpool will only offload Rhian Brewster on loan if the young striker is guaranteed minutes at the club he’s going to.

Express Sport understands Crystal Palace and Aston Villa top the list of clubs interested in landing the former Chelsea youth ace.

Leeds and Swansea, meanwhile, are keen on taking him to the Championship to bolster their respective promotion pushes.

However, Liverpool will block any loan deal unless Brewster will definitely get game time from January until the end of the season.

Man Utd exit theory

Manchester United and Paul Pogba have been accused in the Spanish press of making out the midfielder’s injury is worse as he pushes for a January move to Real Madrid.

Cope allege the former Juventus star has been fit for some time having undergone extensive rehabilitation work to bounce back from a foot injury.

However, he’s apparently not playing to ensure he’s healthy enough to hit the ground running if he swaps Old Trafford for the Bernabeu in the new year.

Pogba admitted last year that it is a “dream” to play for Real and Zinedine Zidane is a known admirer of his countryman, who rejoined United in 2016.

Arsenal’s Unai Emery fears

Arsenal believe not sacking Unai Emery could cost them their best players with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette stalling on signing new contracts.

Emery is in danger of being axed in north London after the Gunners’ poor start to the season was made worse by Saturday’s dismal 2-2 draw with Southampton.

That Emirates stalemate has increased calls from fans for the Spaniard to be shown the door – a decision the Arsenal board are now pondering over.

The Daily Mail reckon Arsenal chiefs fear losing the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette if Emery stays on, with both hesitating over putting pen to paper on fresh terms.
