Picture appears to prove Mohamed Salah was offside for Liverpool goal against Man City

Photographs of Mohamed Salah in an offside position before scoring Liverpool’s second goal against Manchester City have started doing the rounds on social media.

The Egyptian put the Reds 2-0 up against the defending Premier League champions with a sumptuous header from inside the 18-yard box.

Salah glanced the ball past the despairing Claudio Bravo after getting on the end of a beautifully-placed cross from Andy Robertson, sending Anfield into raptures.

Initially, City defenders and footy fans at home thought the former Chelsea and Roma star was in an offside position before nodding home.

VAR, however, disagreed with their assessment and allowed the goal to stand.

But just moments after VAR adjudged the goal to be perfectly fine, photographs and videos on Twitter appear to show the forward was indeed offside.

As Robertson played in the cross from the left wing, Salah’s head and foot appeared to be ahead of the Fernandinho, who was City’s last man.

Eagle-eyed footy fans shared the pictures and videos on social media and couldnt’ help but express their anger at VAR.

One footy fan tweeted: “City should have a penalty and Salah was offside, VAR is causing more problems than before it was being used.”

Another wrote: “Salah was offside! Why VAR didn’t check that?”

One angry viewer wrote: “Guarantee Salah is as much offside there as that Sheffield United player yesterday but as it’s Liverpool they won’t deem it ‘‘‘clear and obvious’’’”

“Why haven’t sky shown any more replays of Salah goal re offside call?” asked one viewer. Looked super tight.”
