Man City player ratings vs Atalanta: Walker the hero, Bravo brainless, defender gets a 3

Manchester City escaped with a 1-1 against Atalanta after Kyle Walker was forced to play in goal during the closing moments at the San Siro.

Raheem Sterling put City into the lead early on but Gabriel Jesus missed a first-half penalty before Ederson was forced off at the break.

Mario Pasalic headed home an equaliser shortly after half-time then substitute stopper Claudio Bravo was dismissed for a lunge on Josip Ilicic, forcing Walker to deputise between the posts.

Express Sport have rated how the Man City players performed against Atalanta, but do you agree?

Manchester City player ratings vs Atalanta – Champions League

GK: Ederson – 5

Distribution was not as accurate as usual and fans will be worried about his half-time withdrawal ahead of the clash with Liverpool.

RB: Joao Cancelo – 6

Got forward well in support of Riyad Mahrez but was caught out for the equaliser.

CB: Nicolas Otamendi – 6

Enjoyed a relatively solid display, having been dropped from the first-team in recent weeks.

However, the Argentine didn’t get close enough to stop the cross for the equaliser.

CB: Fernandinho – 8

Flourishing in a defensive role and marshalled the back four well under pressure.

Also showed his class on the ball when he found Sterling with a fantastic pass.

LB: Benjamin Mendy – 3

A really sloppy display from the Frenchman who wasted possession on numerous occasions, particularly in the second half.

CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 7

Has come into his own this season and was the dominant force in City’s midfield.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 5

So much quality but nothing really came off for the Belgian on a frustrating evening.

CM: Bernardo Silva – 6

Played a key role in Sterling’s strike but like De Bruyne, struggled to make things happen against a resolute Atalanta defence.

RAM: Riyad Mahrez – 6

An inconsistent evening for the winger, who looked really dangerous on occasions before squandering several good opportunities with poor decisions.

LAM: Raheem Sterling – 8

In the right place to open the scoring then won two penalties with his close control but missed a glorious chance after good work from Fernandinho.

ST: Gabriel Jesus – 4

Given some rough treatment by the Atalanta rearguard and took and awful penalty but did provide the assist for Sterling.

SUB: Claudio Bravo (on for Ederson, 46 mins) – 2

Brainless challenge as he flew out of goal and left his team in trouble.

SUB: Sergio Aguero (on for Jesus, 73 mins) – 4

Didn’t get going.

SUB: Kyle Walker (on for Mahrez, 88 mins) – 7

It doesn’t matter how you stop them, and Walker preserved a point with a vital – if unconvincing – save with his first touch as a substitute goalkeeper.
