Galaxy S11 could overtake the P30 Pro and iPhone 11 with this huge upgrade

The Galaxy S11 could be all about the camera.

That’s according to renowned tipster Ice Universe that’s said there’s a “high probability” the Galaxy S11 will leverage a new 108-megapixel camera, presumably for its primary snapper.

In particular, Ice Universe declared the sensor itself will be “new”, suggesting it could be an upgraded version of the 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX that was unveiled back in August.

The ISOCELL Bright HMX should deliver excellent low-light performance thanks to its large 1/1.33-inch sensor size. Essentially, the larger lens means there’s more room for light to enter it, thus improving shots taken in dim conditions.

Additionally, the lens is also capable of recording video at up to 6K at 30-frames-per-second. Impressive stuff indeed.

Samsung partnered with Chinese vendor Xiaomi to put the sensor together. In fact, the ISOCELL Bright HMX just debuted in Xiaomi’s new Mi CC9 Pro flagship.

The Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro has already been taken for a spin by the folks over a DxOMark that are renowned for conducting meticulous camera tests on smartphones. The Chinese device was adored by the French publication, so much so it now sits in joint first place with Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro in its overall rankings.

The performance offered by the ISOCELL Bright HMX is certainly impressive. Therefore if Samsung is indeed planning to debut an upgraded version of the sensor in the Galaxy S11, fans should be very excited… although the P30 Pro and iPhone 11 certainly have reason to be worried.

To demonstrate just how much of a megapixel upgrade could be in store, the Galaxy S10 came packing a 12-megapixel main camera when it was unwrapped earlier this year. Apple’s new iPhone 11 series similarly leverages a 12-megapixel main shooter while the P30 Pro takes things up to 40-megapixels.

While more megapixels doesn’t always translate to better performance, it does generally mean more details are preserved in a shot, especially when zooming in.

Adding further weight to suggestions the Galaxy S11 will boast a huge camera upgrade, Samsung announced its newest premium chipset last month that supports 108-megapixel sensors.

Dubbed the Exynos 990, the new processor also brings graphics performance improvements, better efficiency and support for 120Hz screens.

Samsung said the new silicon will begin mass production by the end of this year. Just in time for the Galaxy S11 perhaps?
