Mindhunter: Will Jeffrey Dahmer be in Mindhunter season 3? Who is Jeffrey Dahmer?

The first two seasons of Mindhunter are available to stream and download on Netflix now. True-crime fans who have watched both series are wondering if infamous American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer will appear in the third series. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.

Will Jeffrey Dahmer be in Mindhunter season 3?

At the moment, it is impossible to tell whether Jeffrey Dahmer will be part of the Mindhunter season three.

This is because Netflix has not officially given a third season of Mindhunter the green light yet.

Show writer Joe Penhall previously told the Metro he had a “five-season bible” for the show, so fingers crossed the plan goes ahead.

Hopes for a third series are also high thanks to the cliffhanger ending of season two and the wealth of material the show could potentially cover.

The book which the series is based on, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E Douglas and Mark Olshaker, mentions Dahmer so it is highly possible he could feature.

The real FBI Agents John E Douglas and Robert Ressler, who inspire the show’s character Holden Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) respectively, worked together interviewing Dahmer in the 1990s.

Since the second series dropped in summer 2019, Mindhunter fans have been discussing online who they think will appear in season three.

One Reddit user and Mindhunter fan, who had also read the book said: “Ressler whom Tench is based on thought Jeffrey Dahmer was mentally ill as Dahmer would often dissociate during his crimes. And he detected slight remorse and shame in Dahmer.

“Whereas Douglas (Holden) firmly states in Mindhunter the book, that even though Ressler was a dear friend, he was wrong about Dahmer and was being fooled by him.

“So tbh [to be honest] I could see this playing out in the later seasons as Dahmer was arrested in ’91. And I can see Tench and Holden having the exact same dynamic.”

If Dahmer does appear in the third series of Mindhunter, he will mostly like appear as a background character like the BTK killer.

This is because the third series if given the go-ahead, will likely be set in the mid-1980s and Dahmer was not arrested until 1991.

This could mean the show’s timeline would not allow for Tench and Ford to interview him in the next series.

Express.co.uk will update this article when more information about the future of Mindhunter is available.
