Mike Bushell: ‘Emily’s happy’ Strictly star hints show has improved sex life with wife

Mike Bushell, 53, has appeared to dismiss the so-called Strictly Come Dancing curse after claiming that learning to dance has “definitely” impressed his wife Emily. The curse has seen celebrities start romantic relationships with their professional dance partners after competing on the show. The BBC Breakfast presenter, who is partnered up with pro Katya Jones, 30, said he credits learning new routines each week for his recent “physical improvements”. Mike told The Sun: “Dancing’s made me sharper mentally and really improved me physically.

“I’ve lost nearly a stone and a half and Emily’s definitely happy that I have a slim new figure.”

The Strictly hopeful went on to admit his other half was particularly taken aback by his “hip thrusts” during the pair’s Samba last week.

He explained: “She and my daughters were there to watch my samba routine last week, and they thought the hip thrusts were fun.”

Mike then cheekily added: “My wife was like: ‘Wow.’”

The TV personality also opened up about fighting for his place on the programme in the dance-off last weekend.

David James was sent out of the competition after Mike and Katya impressed the judges with their performance.

He continued: “The dance-off was a bit of a wake-up call because I don’t want to go home.

“I’m having the best experience on this show.”

Meanwhile, Mike’s wife Emily addressed an awkward moment regarding her husband in an interview with OK! Magazine.

She couldn’t help calling out the sport correspondent for his “constant clumsiness”.

Speaking about the famous moment Mike slipped and fell into a swimming pool live on the BBC morning show in 2018, she said: “I was on a flight from Spain, and when I landed my phone was going wild. I was thinking, what has he done?

“This clumsiness is constant with Mike. I’ve had to ban him from DIY.”

Mike explained he was surprised the funny clip went viral.

He admitted: “I couldn’t believe it! I was getting so many calls. It was surreal.

“I remember going to the beach, ten minutes afterwards, and a man said, ‘Oh my God, you’re the guy who fell in the pool.’

“I was like, ‘How do you know that?’ and he replied, ‘It’s all over Twitter, mate.’”

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs tonight on BBC One at 7.15pm.
