Boxing news: Deontay Wilder vows to open up horrific Tyson Fury cuts in rematch

Deontay Wilder has vowed to target the scars Tyson Fury will have on the right side of his face when they rematch one another next year.

‘The Gypsy King’ suffered two nasty lacerations in his points win over the previously-undefeated Otto Wallin in Las Vegas last weekend.

Fury sustained a deep laceration just above his eyebrow and a smaller one on his eyelid, the latter of which was twice checked by the ringside physician.

The former unified heavyweight champion’s wounds are expected to fully heal in less than two months’ time, after which he’ll be able to resume full sparring.

But WBC king Wilder plans on opening them up again in their eagerly-anticipated rematch, provided he wins his second encounter with Luis Ortiz later this year.

“When you’ve been in there with a person before, you see a lot of things,” Wilder told Tha Boxing Voice. “I can’t wait. I hope they heal well, and I can’t wait to see Mr. Fury. That’s not my problem if he’s ready or not.

“He signed the contract. That’s his problem. He better get ready. ‘No matter what he does, when he fights me, it’s [the cut] going to open right back up.

“I’m going to pop it right back open. He can get plastic surgery, duct tape or staples, super glue or hot glue, cement glue. S***, he can go get some of that flex glue. It ain’t even going to matter.”

A date for Wilder vs Ortiz II has not yet been announced, leading to suggestions the bout will be cancelled.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has rubbished that notion and insists all will be revealed in the coming weeks.

He said: “The announcement is coming just like any announcement. You want to do it on a certain platform. We’ve got a big fight coming up, and they’ll hear the announcements. It’ll be coming soon, and they’ll have a date and place where it’ll be at. So no one has to worry.

“Yeah, you can look for an announcement around that time for sure for people to get their arrangements in order for them to book their flights and hotels, and get everything situated.”
