BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent interviewed Mike Bushell and Katya Jones during the latest instalment this morning. The programme joined the new Strictly Come Dancing duo during their first day of training, after viewers saw them partnered up last Saturday. The 48—year-old journalist used the opportunity to “warn” the professional dancer about the sports reporter, 53, who has signed up for the 2019 dancing competition. She seemingly left the 30-year-old Russian open-mouthed in shock as she spilled the beans on her newlywed companion.
Speaking out in the studio, Sally started: “Katya, I wanted to warn you a little bit… Katya, it’s Sally in the studio.”
She continued: “Are you aware that wherever Mike goes, wherever he goes in the street, he gets mobbed?
“He literally can’t walk down the street for a… look at her face! For adoring fans. Are you prepared for this?”
The camera cut back to the brunette beauty, who appeared to be gobsmacked by what she was hearing and turned to Mike.
“Really?!” the performer exclaimed, while struggling with her ear piece.
“Yes!” Sally urged about her colleague. “You’re going to have to be fighting them off.”
Katya then replied: “We’re just not going to go on the streets then, we’re just going to stay in the training room the whole time to avoid that.”
“I’m locked away now for the next two weeks,” Mike quipped, as he stood next to her for the video chat.
However, she made sure to correct him: “Till Christmas,” which is when the latest run will crown the 2019 winners.
But bookmakers believe it is unlikely Mike will get that far as his odds suggest he could be one of the first to get the boot.
He is currently tipped as a 4/1 chance of exiting first with James Cracknell on the same, followed closely by Will Bayley on 5/1.
At the other end of the table, it looks unlike Saffron Barker, Karim Zerouai, Emma Barton, Alex Scott and Catherine Tyldesley will not be disappearing anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Mike had previously tweeted his 46,000 Twitter followers to tell them they’d be on BBC Breakfast.
He posted: “Before the pain and hard work really begins team #bushkat will be on @BBCBreakfast tomorrow morning after 8 o clock from the dance studio.
“@Mrs_katjones will be bringing her ‘tools’ including the strap of swing! @bbcstrictly the #bushkat is being released.”
BBC Breakfast continues tomorrow at 6am on BBC One, while Strictly Come Dancing 2019 returns to the same channel on September 21.
