iPhone SE 2 release: Apple fans waiting for this phone have been dealt good and bad news

iPhone SE 2 has never been officially confirmed to actually be in development – however murmurings surrounding the device have been circulating for years.

The latest of which comes from Japanese publication Nikkei that has claimed Apple is indeed hard at work on a “low-cost” iPhone that would “be similar” in size to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 that launched back in 2017.

Moreover, it was noted the mobile would “share most of the same components with the flagship iPhones this year”, meaning it could tote a fast processor and would presumably run Apple’s latest iOS 13 software.

Nikkei said the cheaper Apple device would employ a “lower cost liquid crystal display” that would presumably allow Apple to charge a more appealing price for it, citing sources familiar with the matter.

It was declared the new device could be designed to help Apple gain competitive ground in markets that are more sensitive to price.

In particular, Nikkei said such a smartphone could challenge mid-range hardware from the likes of Samsung, Huawei and Oppo that continue to be successful in territories such as China for instance.

With that said, it was noted Apple has not yet decided on an official name or price for the device in question.

While the claims from the Japanese publication stating Apple is hard at work on “the latest generation of the iPhone SE” will come as good news to fans craving a smaller, cheaper, device – it seems there may be some disappointing news in store, too.

That is because Nikkei speculated the claimed Apple smartphone may be revealed in the first half of next year, meaning Apple is not expected to unveil it tomorrow.

Commenting on the alleged product Jeff Pu, a tech analyst for GF Securities, told Nikkei: “The cheaper iPhone SE could serve as a sales momentum kicker the first half next year, if the new premium iPhones do not perform well in the coming months.”

Apple has scheduled a hardware event taking place tomorrow, September 10, at its Cupertino campus.

It is anticipated proceedings will focus on three new iPhones that are successors to the iPhone XR, iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max respectively.

Apple’s two most premium new iPhones are expected to tote a triple camera system – it is expected an ultra wide-angle lens will accompany a typical primary and telephoto sensor.

The successor to the iPhone XR is anticipated to miss out on an ultra wide-angle module – instead the device has been tipped to come with just a primary and telephoto lens.

It is also possible the Apple Watch will also be updated during the tech giant’s event.

The presumably titled Apple Watch Series 5 has been tipped to come in new ceramic and titanium cases – it is also possible the device will boast new fitness and health features.
