Steph McGovern: ‘Do us a favour’ BBC Breakfast star reacts as she gets told to 'stay' away

Steph McGovern threw her support behind farms on Twitter as she joined in on the campaign to highlight the work agricultural workers do.

The BBC Breakfast star shared the hashtag, #Farm24, on Twitter as she shared snaps of herself working on farms.

The campaign is to highlight food producers and to encourage farmers to show the general public what a typical working day is like.

The event, sponsored by Morrisons, takes places from 5am August 8 to 5am August 9.

But the pregnant reporter’s post wasn’t well received by one person who told her to “stay” on a farm.

Steph captioned the pictures: “I visit lots of farms as part of my job.

“So I just want to give a shout out to all the hardworking farmers running them. #Farm24.”

However, one fan gave her a negative reply and told her to “stay” on one of the farms.

They wrote: ”Do us a favour and stay on one of them.”

Steph responded: ”Ah sweetheart, I have stayed on farms plenty of times. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion.”

One person praised the mum-to-be and said: “Good answer, Steph!”

Another said: “@stephbreakfast I despair at the internet sometimes. You are always so positive and to get such a comment and keep your cool is amazing. Life it too short to be bitter and it’s good to see you rising above the taunt x

A third added: “That’s just the way to deal with comments like that. We love you and the rest of the BBC breakfast team!”

On Twitter yesterday, Steph gave an insight into the beginning of her career, as she highlighted the importance of vocational education.

The expectant mum announced she had created a day for young people to celebrate achieving vocational qualifications.

She penned: “Nearly time for my annual celebration of people completing vocational quals.

“Next Wed 14th Aug people who’ve done BTECs, City&Guilds, NVQs, Cambridge Technicals etc will be on BBC News (like A-Level results day). Here’s why I created this day last year,” with a link to her blog post which highlighted the main issues.”

In response to her tweet, one person said how “hands on experience” shouldn’t be “dismissed”.

Steph replied, revealing her own background: ““Ooh interesting. I did a Year In Industry too. Made all the difference. Wouldn’t be where I am without it. Great to hear your son’s story too.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am.
