In his first tournament since losing the Wimbledon final in July, Federer has a bye in the opening round due to being a top-eight seed.
It means the 38-year-old will begin his campaign against either Matteo Berrettini or Juan Ignacio Londero in the second round.
The Swiss star could then meet big-hitting Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili before a quarter-final clash against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Federer then has a quick chance of revenge with Novak Djokovic potentially waiting in the semis then another showdown with great rival Rafael Nadal could be on the cards in the final.
