Steve Smith became only the fifth Australian to make two centuries in the same Ashes Test after another near-perfect innings left England needing to bat for the entirety of the final day in the series opener at Edgbaston to avoid defeat.
Smith, who is playing red ball cricket for the first time in 16 months, said: ‘I have never doubted my ability … it has been a dream comeback.’
