Natasha Bedingfield is BACK: New album release date announced, first single out now

The singer-songwriter was a huge staple of the British pop scene in the 2000s, and went on to find success in the US too.

Now, eight years after the release of her third opus Strip Me Away, she’s back with a new record.

Roll With Me is confirmed for release on August 30, with the first single – Roller Skate – out today.

She said in a statement: “I wanted to make music that moves people and makes them move.

“It’s bright and bold but in a way that is also raw and honest.”

Linda Perry, who produced the album and co-wrote this song, added: “I wanted to work with Natasha because she is one of the best live performers I have ever seen and has one of the most versatile voices I have ever heard.

“It was important to both of us to capture the true spirit of who Natasha Bedingfield is and we nailed it!”

Strip Me Away – released under the name Strip Me in the US – came out in the UK in the summer of 2011 with little promotion.

Her debut, 2004’s Unwritten, went three-times Platinum in this country; topping the charts and spawning the hits Single and These Words.

Its title track shot up in popularity when it was used on reality show The Hills, and a reworked version was recently released for the programme’s revival.

In 2007, second album N.B. was released, and Bedingfield’s US career took off when the track Pocketful of Sunshine soared to No5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Late last year, shortly after it was revealed that she had contributed to Cheryl’s comeback song, she was asked to name her favourite tracks from her own repertoire; and she told Contrast magazine: “These Words was my first song in America and that was my favourite, because of how fun it was.

“I did an English video and an American video, which I thought was really cool. One of them was with Sophie Muller, who directed a lot of things for Gwen Stefani.

“I think the greatest thing about making music is that your songs should hit people in such a personal way. Hearing the stories from people, of what the songs mean to them, and they kind of mean different things to everyone.

“There’s another song called Wild Horses, that I wrote and it was never released as a single, and it was just one of those songs buried in the album, but it became a lot of people’s favourite. I’ve read all these stories about kids and how it gave them the courage to come out.

“I wrote the song about when I was leaving a hard situation, a hard relationship. Which was really painful and I wrote the song about being free. I love that for me, if I write something personal, then it can mean something else to someone. It can encourage someone in a dark time of their life, in a way of just being open and free.”
