Trump surge: US President surpasses Barrack Obama’s rating in latest shock approval poll

In a new poll released on Sunday, the US President received 47 percent approval for his work in the White House. According to the poll, produced by Washington Post and ABC News, Trump has gained five points on his previous rating since April. Moreover, the President has surpassed Mr Obama, who at the same time in his first-term received 46 percent according to Gallup.

Trump’s surge was attributed to his handling of the economy, with 51 percent of the public approving of his economic policy.

The news of Trump’s approval rating comes as the President was recently forced to defend himself over leaked memos from the UK’s ambassador to the US.

In the leaked messages from Sir Kim Darroch, the ambassador called Trump “inept”.

Sir Kim said: “We don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction driven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.”

Such was the severity of the leak that the Foreign Office has confirmed that the documents will now be formally investigated.

A spokesman said: “A formal leak investigation has now been initiated.”

In response to the remarks, Trump insisted that Sir Kim had “not served the UK well”.

He added: “We’re not big fans of that man and he has not served the UK well.

“So I can understand it and I can say things about him but I won’t bother.”

Moreover, Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt said the memos only reflected the views of Sir Kim and not the as a whole.

Mr Hunt concluded: “It is not the view of the British government, it’s not my view.

“We continue to think that under President Trump the US administration is not just highly effective but the best friend of Britain on the international stage.”
