Coutinho talks Neymar

Philippe Coutinho has not spoken to Neymar about the possibility of a swap deal between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, but admits it would be a pleasure to play with him again.

“To play with Neymar is incredible, he is a superstar,” he said. “I don’t know what will happen, but it’s always a source of happiness to speak about playing with him.

“He’s a player of another dimension and very important to any team he’s on.

“Nobody can deny his qualities and his massive talent, and we all know that.

“Right now, we don’t know what will happen but people are saying a lot of things. He’s part of the group and he has been with the group but we haven’t talked about this.”

Wanted: Dani Olmo

Barcelona are monitoring Dinamo Zagreb star Dani Olmo.

That’s according to Spanish newspaper Marca, who claim the Catalan giants are considering bringing the 21-year-old back to the Nou Camp.

Olmo played for Barcelona’s academy from 2007-2014 before signing a four-year deal with Dinamo Zagreb.

However, his performances for Dinamo Zagreb and his displays in the European Under-21 Championships for Spain have seen Barcelona linked with a swoop.

Sport add that Olmo could cost the La Liga champions £27million.

Louis van Gaal on Lionel Messi

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has taken aim at ‘individual’ Lionel Messi for Barcelona’s recent Champions League failures.

“I believe that there is nothing more important than the team player,” Van Gaal told El Pais. “Barca suffer from that.

“I think Messi should ask himself how it is possible that he’s gone so long without winning a Champions League.

“Look at Barcelona. How many Champions Leagues have they won with the one everybody says is the best player in the world? Look at Neymar at PSG. How many Champions Leagues has he won?

“He’s the best individual player in the world because his stats are amazing. But why hasn’t he won a Champions League for five years?

“As captain, you have to ask yourself why the team doesn’t win in Europe. I think that Messi is also responsible for what is happening at Barcelona, not just the coach.

“They have a squad of 30 players and I believe that Messi should adapt himself to the team, and not the other way around.”

Paul Pogba/Neymar swap proposal

Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Manchester United about an audacious swap deal.

That’s according to the Independent, who claim PSG have spoken to Ed Woodward about directly swapping Neymar for Paul Pogba.

Both players are unhappy in their current situations with Pogba admitting a new challenge would be tempting while Neymar wants to leave the Ligue 1 champions.

The Independent claim PSG have tried to remedy the situation and have held discussions with United about a potential exchange.

However, Woodward is supposedly against the deal for two reasons.

The first is Neymar’s current £900,000-a-week wages, and the second is that the Manchester United executive vice-chairman wants to keep Pogba at Old Trafford.

Neymar has been heavily linked with a summer return to Barcelona and United’s snub could open the door to that happening.

Alves off

Dani Alves announced he was leaving PSG, just hours after captaining Brazil to a 5-0 win over Peru in the Copa America and chipping in with a goal.

The flamboyant full back joined the French club in 2017 after spells at Sevilla, Barcelona and Juventus, but he did not say what his next move would be after leaving Paris.

The club later added that both parties had agreed not to extend Alves’ contract.

“Another cycle in my life ends today, a victorious cycle, one of learning and experiences,” Alves, 36, wrote on Instagram.

“I would like to thank the PSG family for the opportunity we had together to build a page in the club’s history.”

James Rodriguez uncertain

James Rodriguez doesn’t know where he’ll be playing football next season.

That’s according to the Colombia international, who says he’s not even spoken to Zinedine Zidane about his future.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Napoli after completing a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich.

“Right now I’m only thinking about the Copa America,” Rodriguez said. “I still don’t know where I’ll go but I want to be calm. The decision depends on the club.

“There are people with a lot of power there, I can’t do much. I haven’t spoken with Zidane.”
