Boxing news: Anthony Joshua sparring revelation, Andy Ruiz confident, Amir Khan defiant

Anthony Joshua sparring claim

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has claimed Anthony Joshua was dropped in sparring a few days before his shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr at Madison Square Garden.

“I have it from a good source that Anthony Joshua got dropped in sparring the week of the fight,” Joe Rogan said during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

“He got hurt, real bad, the week of the fight, and he was very tentative coming into that fight, and very vulnerable. Which makes sense. He looked out of it.”

Andy Ruiz sets sights on Deontay Wilder

Ruiz Jr has revealed his confidence in beating Joshua in their rematch later this year by setting his sights on a unification bout with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

“I would love to get in there with [Deontay] Wilder as well, that’s the only belt that I’m missing,” he told FightHubTV.

“I want to be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, so I need that belt.”

Amir Khan defends next fight

Former IBF and WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has defended his upcoming bout with Neeraj Goyat in Saudi Arabia, despite the growing human rights concerns in the region.

Khan, who will pocket £7million for the bout at the King Abdullah Sports City, saying: “When I was there last, it had all changed.

“I started seeing women not wearing headscarves. Women were out driving.

“They had a huge concert where everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves. I’d never seen that side of Saudi Arabia before.

“Maybe now they are changing to make it that new place where people can enjoy themselves and it’s fair for women. I think they’re trying to change now.

“They are throwing a lot of money on to the table and at the end of the day, we are prizefighters.

“For me, I would be stupid to not take this opportunity.”
