Best weight loss: Could this diet help you lose 10lb in a week? This is what to eat

To stay trim, most dieters know they need to eat less and keep an active lifestyle. Although a healthy lifestyle is important to keep the weight off, a structured diet plan can be used to kick start the weight loss journey. The Military diet, or 3-day diet, claims slimmers can lose up to 10lb in one week. On the plan, dieters should watch what they eat and follow a calorie-controlled diet for three days.

What can you eat?

The plan is split into two phases over a one-week period and slimmers must follow a low-calorie meal plan for the first three days, according to Joe Leech MS on healthline.com.

This requires cutting calories to roughly 1400 per day for the three day period, although this can vary between slimmers.

Those following the plan can eat a slice of toast with two tablespoons of peanut butter and half a grapefruit for breakfast.

For lunch, dieters can eat a slice of toast with tuna or an egg with cottage cheese and crackers.

For dinner, slimmers can have a portion of protein, such as meats or fish, with vegetables.

The diet also encourages those following it drink plenty of water and tea and coffee with no sugar or milk.

Does it work?

After following the three-day diet plan, slimmers are encouraged to restrict their calories to less than 1500 for the rest of the week.

The diet claims the foods on the diet work together to help lose weight, but this may not be the case.

Joe explained: “These combinations are said to increase your metabolism and burn fat, but there is no truth behind these claims.”

However, he said the diet can still help you lose weight in other ways.

Joe said: “The average person is very likely to lose a few pounds due to the week-long calorie restriction.

“If fewer calories enter your fat tissue than leave it, you lose fat.”

Any weight lost on the diet is likely to be water weight and following a balanced diet after is recommended to see sustainable results.

Joe said: “Water weight drops rapidly as the body’s glycogen stores decline, which happens when you restrict carbs and calories.

“If you want to lose a few pounds quickly, then the military diet can help.

“But you are likely to regain the weight back very fast too. This is simply not a good diet for lasting weight loss.”

Some slimmers want to target certain areas of their body, such as belly fat. Following a high-protein diet can help slimmer shift belly fat, an expert revealed.
