Suits season 9 spoilers: Meghan Markle set for finale as Patrick J Adams return CONFIRMED?

Meghan Markle’s, 37, character Rachel Zane hasn’t been seen on Suits since she and Mike Ross (played by Patrick J Adams) left the show together as a married couple in 2017.

For the fifth episode of season nine, actor Patrick J Adams, 37, will be reprising his role as the formidable lawyer, in scenes which will see him go up against mentor Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl) in a dramatic sequence of events.

The news of the former star’s return was announced by executive producer Aaron Korsh, and fans of the series which airs on Netflix, will be eager to know what has happened between Mike and Rachel since they went to set up their own firm in Seattle.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, who is now married to the Duke of Sussex Prince Harry, will make a return to the series, but Korsh has dropped some hints about Rachel’s role in Mike’s comeback to the show.

Korsh said: “Since they both left, if you take a look throughout season eight and nine, people refer to both Mike and Rachel, even before he comes back.

“When he comes back, I do believe there is a little update on Rachel,” the executive producer explained to Deadline.

Teasing more about the couple’s lives since they left the show, Korsh added he’s not quite sure if the fan favourites would have gone on to have children since their exits.

It seems Patrick’s comeback for episode five will be the lawyer’s only appearance in the final season of the hit American drama as Korsh did not confirm the actor’s return for the finale.

However, there may be a glimmer of hope for fans as Korsh said: “He leaves and we are not sure if he is going to be back or not after he leaves.

“He may or may not be back again. If you know the history of my answers to that question, I’m leading you down a certain answer.”

If the popular character does return for the final episode, could it be Meghan makes a cameo appearance in some respect to give a nod to Rachel and Mike’s relationship, giving viewers a full-circle conclusion to Suits?

Korsh did explain to the publication: “There is always a chance she is going to pick up the phone and call me and say can I come back, and if she did she would be welcome back here with arms wide open.”

The executive producer did add however: “But no, I don’t see that happening.”

Earlier this year, ahead of the second part of the eighth season, it was announced the ninth run would be the last for the USA Network legal drama.

President of USA Network and SYFY Chris McCumber announced the news in a statement, in which he said: “Suits has played an instrumental role in our network’s DNA for nearly a decade.”

McCumber went on to add: “I and everyone at USA Network sincerely thank Aaron Korsh, our partners at UCP and the entire Suits family for their tremendous creativity, devotion and support over a truly amazing run.”

It won’t be an end to the series entirely, as a spin-off focussing on popular character, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) entitled Pearson, will air later this year.

The series will explore the lawyer’s life in Chicago and will see the fan favourite tackle the political landscape of the city.

Showrunner for the spin-off Daniel Arkin said of the project to press at the Television Critics Association: “It has Suits DNA but we wanted the show’s concept to be grittier, raw, more real, showing more facets of her personality and life.”

Korsh added: “You will always be on her side. You may not like the choices she makes, but you will always root for her.”

Suits season 9 will return July 17 on USA Network and the previous eight season are now available on Netflix UK.
