The INCREDIBLE stat that gives all Liverpool fans hope they will beat Man City to title

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, a point behind Manchester City with three games of the season remaining.

The Reds need City to drop points in at least one game and then most likely win all of their remaining matches.

And if history is anything to go by, it could be Burnley who halt City’s incredible winning run off 11 league matches this Sunday.

Burnley have beaten the reigning champions in each of the four previous seasons they have been in the Premier League.

In 2009/10 the Clarets defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Turf Moor.

On their return to the top flight for the 2014/15 campaign, Burnley won by the same scoreline against Man City.

During the 2016/17 season they beat Leicester a year after the Foxes’ incredible title win.

And then last season they defeated Chelsea 3-2 to give the Blues a nightmare start to their title defence.

Burnley are yet to beat City this season, losing 5-0 at the Etihad in the reverse fixture as well as in the fourth round of the FA Cup in January.

Former Ipswich and Charlton midfielder Matt Holland brought the statistic up on Premier League Today.

“If we are going to give Liverpool some hope, it is Burnley,” Holland said.

“Burnley actually have beaten the champions every season they’ve been in the Premier League.

“So can they do it again? This is the big question.

“They’ve done it against United, City, Leicester, Chelsea.

“And now they’ve got one more game against City to keep that run going.

“But they have been beaten twice by City this year already, both times 5-0.

“Once in the league and once in the FA Cup.”

Former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood says it is unlikely but did not rule out Burnley causing an upset.

“10-0 on aggregate, so it doesn’t bode well,” Sherwood replied.

“But it’s on their ground, tight ground, not the most fantastic pitch that Man City like to enjoy.

“There’s no love lost here.”
