Boxing news: Dillian Whyte fans all say the same thing after Deontay Wilder announcement

An announcement was made on Monday that the fight between the two Americans will be shown live on Sky Sports.

And fans were up in arms about the fact that Breazeale was getting the shot over Brixton brawler Whyte.

British fight fans have unhappy memories of the challenger, after he was demolished by Anthony Joshua in seven rounds back in 2016.

That was Joshua’s first defence of his IBF world title, and his 17th fight.

And fans are still appalled by the fact that 20-1 Breazeale is getting the chance to fight for world honours over Whyte, who is ranked as the fourth-best heavyweight in the world by The Ring Magazine.

Whyte, who also fought Joshua in his rise to the heavyweight summit, has bounced back from the only defeat of his career and has picked up impressive wins over Joseph Parker, Dereck Chisora and Lucas Browne.

After the Sky Sports confirmation was made, fans took to Twitter to criticise Wilder for taking a supposed easier fight.

“Dillian Whyte still a boxer?” one fan asked.

“But no Dillian Whyte who is again being shafted…” another posted.

One other wrote: “Just need to get Dillian Whyte fighting for the full set.”

“Should be Dillian Whyte not Breazeale,” another argued.

“Dillian Whyte should be fighting Wilder,” one fan stated.

Another simply wrote: “It should be Dillian Whyte.”

Some fans criticised Wilder for padding his record, citing Joshua’s destruction of Breazeale three years ago.

Many are still pining to see Wilder get in the ring with Joshua to unify the heavyweight division but it was hoped that while they waited for that blockbuster showdown, fans would see Whyte take to the big stage.

”Money fight nothing more. Wilder takes 0 risks and calls himself the greatest,” one fan wrote.

Another posted: “Still a cherry pick Dominic is slow. Whyte should have got the fight.”

One fan, questioning Breazeale’s pedigree, wrote: “Who lost every round to AJ with a flu before getting KO’d? Since then he has fought 0 highly rated opponents and won his mandatory against the 11th ranked fighter. Meanwhile Whyte who is rated 1, and fought 2 ex world champions gets skipped as Wilder is afraid of Whyte and AJ.”

Whyte is still awaiting confirmation of his next fight, while Wilder will defend his WBC strap on May 18.

Joshua will defend his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO world titles against Jarrell Miller on June 1 at Madison Square Garden.
