Emilia Clarke has admitted there are elements of Game of Thrones she and her fellow cast members will not miss. Speaking ahead of the eighth and final series, which premieres April 14, the actress spoke of some of the downfalls of playing Daenerys Targaryen. Costumes were an issue for the British beauty, who suggested the corsets she had to wear got tighter every season. “There are some things, of course, that the cast won’t miss,” the 32-year-old HBO favourite divulged.
“While the show might have looked glamorous from the outside, it ain’t all glamour on the inside!”
She went on to tell Radio Times: “I won’t miss the corset. The last couple of seasons, I felt like, ‘Is this getting tighter or is it just me?’”
On the contrary, the TV star had a lot of great things to say about the show as a whole and sang the praises of her co-stars, including Kit Harington and Sophie Turner.
Of her colleagues she gushed: “Getting to work alongside some incredible actors, and even getting to have opinions on how the show that you’re in has a cultural relevance is ridiculous.”
The last season of Game of Thrones will see Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) armies and a some Lannisters battle the army of the dead.
Season eight is also expected to reveal who takes the Iron Throne, with Emilia revealing the theme of the series is “power”.
“The overarching theme in the entire show, but especially in season eight, is power,” the award-winning actress explained.
“It’s about what it does to people, what it actually is, who deserves it, what are the decisions that you have to make when you have it, what are the sacrifices that you have to make?”
She added: “I find it fascinating in the real world, too, looking at politicians.
“The amount of times that I read newspapers or shout at the TV, and then I think, ‘I wonder… behind those closed doors, I wonder what deals you had to cut to get where you are?’”
Emilia rose to fame with her breakthrough role as the Mother of Dragons in HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones in 2011.
Her portrayal of Daenerys has afforded her numerous accolades, including three Primetime Emmy Awards and six Screen Actor Guild Awards.
The screen siren recently revealed she suffered two brain aneurysms during her early years on Game of Thrones.
She shared pictures of her time in hospital during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning earlier this week.
In one snap the star is seen with a tube attached to her head, leading to machines, and another showing her laying on a hospital bed.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on HBO in the USA on April 14 and on Sky Atlantic in the UK on Monday, April 15.
