Man Utd in pole position to sign Juventus star Sandro as Woodward looks to spend

That is according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who claim Sandro is all set to leave Juve at the end of the season.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move away from Serie A.

Manchester United and Chelsea have tracked the full-back in the past but last summer Juve refused to sell him.

The Brazilian went on to sign a new contract until 2023 – but he is unlikely to see out that deal.

According to the report, Sandro will be dumped onto the transfer market in July as Juve push to sign Real Madrid star Marcelo.

Tuttosport claim a move for Marcelo is on the cards, meaning Sandro will be sold.

And United are said to be leading the race to snap up the 28-year-old – despite their struggles to sign him in recent years.

Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward failed to sign a new defender last summer – much to ex-manager Jose Mourinho’s frustration.

Tuttosport add that PSG and Real Madrid are also interested in Sandro.

It is said Barcelona were preparing for a deal.

But that now looks unlikely after Jordi Alba signed a new contract at the Nou Camp.

A lot has been made of who United should sign this summer, with Jamie Redknapp claiming the Red Devils need a world-class defender.

If they got in the top four four it would be incredibly hard not to give Solskjaer the job,” he said.

“United certainly still need to sign a few players to improve the squad, though.

“They need to find the next Nemanja Vidic. You only need to look at Liverpool to see the impact Virgil van Dijk has been made at Liverpool. He’s turned them into serious title contenders. The pressure on Solskjaer will come when he has to go and sign players.

“Ferguson wasn’t just a great manager, he was brilliant when it came to recruitment too. He identified the right type of player who more times than not was a big success for Manchester United football club. United’s signings of late haven’t been great at all.

“There are some fantastic talents on their books, but they need a couple more if they are going to seriously challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.”
