Roger Federer agent makes retirement claim about tennis star QUITTING

That is the view of Federer’s long-time agent Tony Godsick.

At 37-years of age, speculation about Federer’s future has been a constant source of discussion.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion has always maintained as long as he enjoys his tennis, he will continue to play.

But the past nine months have not been smooth sailing for the Swiss with shock defeats in his last three Grand Slam tournaments.

ROGER FEDERER TO PLAY MADRID OPEN IN MAY

Novak Djokovic is rapidly closing in on the all-time list of Grand Slams, Rafael Nadal is showing no sign of slowing up despite injuries and young players are beginning to mount a challenge.

Godsick acknowledges Federer’s career is nearing an end but stressed he is not done yet.

“I have often asked him how much longer he will continue to play, because I would like to know him as his manager, to have an idea, but he does not know it himself,” he told Swiss publication Tages Anzeiger.

“Roger will continue playing while he is healthy and having fun, and Mirka and the children are happy, that’s the most important thing for him.

“He is undoubtedly on the second nine holes of his career.

“Hopefully not on the 18th hole, but on the 16th or 17th.”

When asked what Federer will do once he decided to end his career, Godsick added: “He is a dedicated dad and husband who will be happy to be at home, watch the kids doing sports, take them to school and stuff like that.

“He will deal with his foundation, which will continue to grow.

“He has many long term sponsorship contracts and I imagine he will continue with these and other companies he likes.

“We do not involve his partners in his life but he knows he is a part of these companies and may want to do more for them in the future.”

Federer returns to tennis action next week when he competes at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

The Swiss will be aiming to win his 100th career title with victory in Dubai.
