Jussie Smollett boyfriend: Is Jussie Smollett gay? Is Empire star in relationship?

Police in Chicago have alleged ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett paid two brothers to stage an attack, in hopes of securing a higher wage on the show. Superintendent Eddie Johnson of the Chicago Police Department alleged to reporters Smollett had tried to gain attention by sending a letter to himself with “racial, homophobic and political language.” Smollett said two Donald Trump supporters had assaulted him on the street while shouting “This is MAGA country” referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. The police chief alleged Smollett paid two brothers $3,500 (£2,685) to carry out the attack, but he has not yet been convicted.

Is Jussie Smollett gay?

Jussie Smollett allegedly received a threatening letter containing racist and homophobic language, which resulted in other stars reaching out to the actor to give their support.

This is because the Jussie is openly gay, and is passionate about LGBTQ+ rights.

Among celebrities who came to his defence were Ariana Grande, Janet Jackson, Viola Davis, Andy Cohen, Shonda Rhimes and Ella Mai.

In an interview with Jussie on May 16 2018, Jussie discussed whether or not he was in a relationship.

Talking to Page Six presenter Bevy Smith, he revealed few details about his love life.

When asked about any potential boyfriends, Smollett simply said: “I am in a relationship and I’m happy”.

When questions once more by the interviewer, he simply reiterated this statement.

Superintendent Johnson said he was dismayed the actor was alleged to have used the hatred against his sexual preference and race in the alleged staging.

He said: “I’m left hanging my head and asking why.

“Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations?”

“How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and see an opportunity to manipulate that symbol to further his own public profile?”

Police said the Cook County State Attorney’s Office has now approved felony criminal charges against Smollett for disorderly conduct and filing a false police report.

A spokesman for Smollett’s lawyers, Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson, said on Thursday via email, “once we are ready to make a statement we will do so.”

A statement from 20th Century Fox Television, which airs “Empire” said it understands the seriousness of the matter and respects the legal process.

The statement said: “We are evaluating the situation and we are considering our options.”
