James Harden 'doesn't care about the team' amid scoring streak claims NBA pundit Jackson

That is the opinion of former NBA player Stephen Jackson.

Harden is closing in on Wilt Chamberlain’s record of consecutive 30-point games.

On Wednesday night, he scored 42 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves to extend his streak to 31 games.

However, those 42 points weren’t enough as the Timberwolves ran out 121-111 winners.

His style has been criticised for not being effective in the playoffs, and the Rockets have not gone further than the Western Conference finals.

Last year, they were beaten by the Golden State Warriors in game seven after running out of steam.

In 2017, Harden scored just ten points as the Rockets were blown out by the San Antonio Spurs 114-75 in the Conference Semi-Finals.

Jackson doubts if the Rockets style of play will be beneficial in the playoffs this time around if Harden continues to be their scoring outlet.

“It’s attractive,” he said. “Seeing him put up all these numbers, it’s attractive.

“I love him as a player, but it doesn’t look like he’s focused on winning.

“It also doesn’t look like the team is focused on winning.

“Yeah he’s putting up all those numbers but once you take that away in the playoffs and you lose in the first round it’s all for nothing.

“If he can still do that and they can start making a run towards being one of the best teams in the West, and looking like a championship winning team, then yeah it looks good.

“But right now it just looks like he’s just going out there, having fun, putting up his numbers and he’s not really focused on the team or how they’re going to do in the playoffs or whatnot.

“Losing Trevor Ariza is another reason why Houston aren’t playing well.

“But the guys that are laying well and their teams are at the top of their conferences, those are the guys that are MVPs.

“I put Paul George and Giannis neck and neck.”
