TalkTalk price cut as broadband firm takes on Virgin Media and BT with new deals

TalkTalk has just launched a major price cut which it says offers customers “Britain’s lowest fixed price fibre”.

The new broadband offer means users can get internet beamed into their homes for £19.95 per month.

This price is usually £33.50 per month so there’s a saving of £13.55 to be made.

Along with cutting the price of its fibre speeds, the firm has also dropped the cost of its standard broadband which is now on offer for £17.95 per month – a saving of £9.05.

Here’s how the two services from TalkTalk compare.

Faster Fibre Broadband includes unlimited downloads with average download speeds of 36Mbps.

The price is fixed for 18-months and can be upgraded to 63Mbps speeds for an extra £5.

The firm’s standard broadband offers speeds of 11Mbps with unlimited downloads also available.

The lower £17.95 price is fixed for 18-months and includes free set-up and Wi-Fi hub.

As a comparison, Virgin Media currently offers its fast VIVID 100 broadband for £27 per month which includes average speeds of 108Mbps.

There’s also VIVID 200, with average speeds of 213Mbps, for £32 per month.

Although this is clearly more expensive, Virgin does offer much faster downloads than TalkTalk so it’s worth checking your usage before deciding on a deal.

Here’s the download times for each speed.

11Mbps broadband – HD movie download 52 mins

36Mbps broadband – HD movie download 16 mins

108Mbps broadband – HD movie download 5 mins

213Mbps broadband – HD movie download 3 mins

Along with Virgin and TalkTalk it’s also worth checking BT.

Although BT hasn’t cut all prices it is offering a MasterCard reward card for new customers.

This means if you take out their Fibre Essential (36Mbps) you’ll £50 back or the Superfast Fibre (50Mbps) and get a £90 reward card.

BT customers who opt for the Superfast Fibre 2 can currently get a discount with BT offering this 67Mbps service for £39.99 per month – a saving of £6.
