Google Pixel 3 budget rival may have just been outed in a major leak

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL released in November and are certainly one of the best Android phones on the market thanks to each’s camera and software experience.

Pixel 3 is the smaller of the two handsets, arriving with a 5.5-inch P-OLED display while the Pixel 3 XL comes with a 6.3-inch P-OLED panel.

Pixel 3 XL also has a larger battery than its smaller brother, giving Android fans a 3,430mAh pack instead of the 2,915mAh unit inside the Pixel 3.

Apart from expected differences in screen and battery size, both Google phones offer the same specifications for users.

That means the duo are both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, have 4GB of RAM and run Google’s version of Android.

Moreover, both come with a single 12.2-megapixel rear camera sensor that is arguably the best on any smartphone at the moment.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL offer a litany of flagship features and are priced at a premium.

The former starts at £739 while the latter costs a minimum of £869.

However, it appears Google could soon release a budget rival for its new handsets that forgoes some top-tier features in exchange for a lower price tag.

The American tech giant has been rumoured to be working on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL Lite devices that have been claimed to release later this year.

Russian outlet Rozetked was the first to display images of a claimed Pixel 3 Lite.

The handset was said to have a 5.56-inch LCD display, 4GB of RAM and be powered by a Snapdragon 670 processor.

Most notably, the product was shown with a headphone jack, a plastic back panel and large bezels above and below its display.

Moreover, it was also claimed the single camera offered on the phone’s rear would be as capable as that offered by the more premium Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones.

If the claimed existence of a Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL Lite is accurate, it appears the firm is determined to offer a budget device to fans with its camera being the main selling point.

A new video of the supposed Pixel 3 Lite has emerged via Andro News and appears to add further credence such a device is real.

The outlet insisted the model shown was a “pre-production” sample.

The hardware was shown running Android 9 Pie with no skin on top, as is the case with all Google phones.

Moreover, just one front-facing camera on the device could be seen.

Andro News also stated the handset only boasted one speaker at its bottom.

It was also claimed the camera on the Pixel 3 Lite was just as capable as its more premium brothers.

In fact, the outlet even showed off claimed picture samples from the handset to demonstrate such a point.

The Pixel 3 Lite was said to release this spring, after Google’s I/O developer conference.

It has been claimed the handset could cost between $400 (£310.32) and $500 (£387.90).

However, it is worth noting nothing about a Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL Lite phone has been officially confirmed by Google.
