Man Utd news: Surprising Jose Mourinho sack claim made about Ed Woodward

Mourinho was shown the door at Old Trafford before Christmas after a disappointing season.

The Portuguese was replaced in the dugout by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the Manchester United hero winning his first three games.

He has done so in some style with United scoring 12 times and conceding just three.

Solskjaer takes United to Newcastle on Wednesday as he looks to improve his fine run with the Red Devils impressing from front to back.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have shone under Solskjaer with the French midfielder netting four goals in the three matches.

And pundit Tony Cascarino has praised Woodward for sacking Mourinho, despite some believing that the former Chelsea boss was given too long at Old Trafford.

“It really was the Theatre of Dreams a few weeks ago — with Manchester United’s football sending people to sleep — but again we have seen the positive impact a short-term appointment can have,” Cascarino wrote for The Times.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has changed the attitude and style to exactly what you would associate with United.

“Every player looks to have improved since Jose Mourinho left.

“Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, deserves credit for making the brave call.”

Fellow pundit, and Arsenal legend, Ian Wright recently admitted he was glad to see Manchester United thriving again now Jose Mourinho has gone.

“I don’t think, if Mourinho had the same fixtures, we’d be seeing the same results because of the attitude and mentality that the players were in,” Wright said.

“It’s a very good appointment, it’s like the shackles have been taken off.

“I saw football the other day from Manchester United, one touch football that I’ve not seen for two years.

“It can be that simple sometimes, to bring someone in like that, a familiar face that all the players know and like.

“Whatever anyone says, you don’t want to see Manchester United like that.

“It was getting ridiculous with how miserable he [Mourinho] was, it was bringing everyone down. Not just Man United, the whole Premier League.”
