ARSENAL 0-1 TOTTENHAM

28: Close! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has hardly been involved tonight, makes a few yards before firing wide of the post.

25: Nibble, nibble, nibble. Kieran Trippier and Aaron Ramsey engage in a couple of ill-tempered tackles before referee Jonathan Moss separates the pair. Storm in a teacup.

23: How’s the Arsenal response been? Not awful. Danny Rose ploughs through Mkhitaryan down the right touchline and he’s quite lucky to avoid a booking in my humble opinion.

22: Son Heung-Min has been directly involved in five of Spurs’ last eight goals in the League Cup (three goals, two assists).

ARSENAL 0-1 TOTTENHAM | SON

20: Deadlock broken in the north London derby!

Son Heung-min has just given Henrikh Mkhitaryan a lesson in finishing having been sent clean through by Dele Alli, before composing himself and clinically thumping it beyond Petr Cech.

Excellent finish. Advantage Spurs at the Emirates Stadium.

19: The game is taking shape now and Spurs are dominating. Arsenal are camped deep inside their own half – just looking to weather the early storm.

17: Spurs playing some intricate stuff in front of the makeshift Arsenal defence but haven’t managed to test Petr Cech. Christian Eriksen decides to bin off the tippy-tappey stuff and leather one from distance… It didn’t go well.

14: Ridiculously lively start here folks. So good in fact that I’ve completely ignored the darts on my other screen!

11: Would you believe it? Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays a neat one-two with Aaron Ramsey and strides through on goal. He’s only got Gazzaniga to beat but tamely strikes straight at Tottenham’s goalkeeper. So wasteful.

Moments before that Dele Alli wasted a decent opportunity when found lurking in the Arsenal penalty area. He couldn’t keep his header down.

8: Wooosh! Aaron Ramsey isn’t wasting any time. He exchanges a couple of passes with Alex Iwobi before cutting inside and lashing one just wide of the post. Really can’t understand why you wouldn’t offer the Welshman a new contract – doubt you’ll find too much better in his price range.

5: Arsenal pressing high in these early stages with Spurs being forced into one or two mistakes in midfield areas. Quite brave to play such a high line with a makeshift defence and the pace of Son leading the line.

3: Well it took around 55 seconds for the drama to arrive as Harry Winks slides to ground and uses his arm to block Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s cross. VAR isn’t used and the corner is given.

The corner is then whipped in an Nacho Monreal goes down under pressure from Kieran Trippier – but there’s not nearly enough contact to award a spot-kick.

ARSENAL 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: Y’all ready for this? The packed Emirates Stadium certainly is. Very impressive atmosphere given the occasion. I’m reminded that there is NO extra-time this evening if the result is a draw. Straight to those dreaded (but secretly loved) penalties. We’re underway.

Final countdown…

19:40: Nearly time for our second north London derby of the season. I will now be accepting your predictions. I fancy a five-goal thriller with Spurs winning 3-2.

*Note: I reserve the right o change if this prediction if/when I’m proven wrong.

Leave off Poch – Emery

19:35: Unai Emery believes Mauricio Pochettino is “very happy” at Tottenham and has questioned the notion of the Argentine leaving north London to take over at Manchester United

“I think he’s (Pochettino) very happy at Tottenham,” Emery said. “I think he’s coaching a very big team with very big players and now they are in the Champions League, they are also in a better position in the Premier League than Manchester United.

“I don’t know if he’s thinking to change for another club, but I am looking at him with a very big commitment to Tottenham and he’s creating a good performance a good idea at Tottenham.”

I’d imagine a fair few Arsenal supporters don’t agree with you there, Unai…

Twitter round-up

Tahir: Buzzing and can’t wait to see the attacking talent on show from our starting XI. Should the team click, we’ll definitely beat Arsenal. That fragile defence of theirs could be in for a spanking.

Will: No idea what Unai Emery’s tactics are! Sick of not seeing Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette in the starting line-up. Why are our two most expensive players constantly not playing?!

Stuart Benns: Why are people still referring to Manchester United as the biggest club in the world?! How many European cups have they won compared to Real Madrid or Barcelona, Bayern Munich? Joke.

23-game unbeaten run not good enough for you, Will?

Poch…

19:25: Well I can’t ignore the elephant in the room all night.

What do we all think about the prospect of Mauricio Pochettino jumping ship to fill Jose Mourinho’s shoes at Old Trafford?

Pochettino is understood to be at the top of United’s wish list to replace Jose – and the Argentine admitted he could not predict what might happen in the summer.

“What is going to happen in the summer? What is going to happen tomorrow? No one knows. The most important is to enjoy the journey. I’m so happy here,” he said. “What is going to happen is not in our hands, I mean the decision in another club, we don’t know.”

Keeping emotion in check…

19:20: The recent Premier League meeting had several flashpoints, with Emery speaking on the eve of this clash calling for the passion to remain but for respect to exist between the two clubs.

Eric Dier equalised for the visitors at the Emirates Stadium before his finger-to-lips celebration sparked a fracas between the two sets of players.

There were also several arrests made amongst the supporters with a Tottenham fan handed a four-year football ban and a £500 fine for throwing a banana skin towards Aubameyang as he celebrated his opening goal in front of the away fans.

Who’s through and when is the draw?!

19:15: Calm down, I have the answers for you right now.

League One Burton Albion and Premier League champions Manchester City qualified for the draw yesterday night.

And the Carabao Cup semi-final are tonight after the conclusion of the north London derby. I’ll bring you that on this page.

Twitter round-up

Tom: Hope Tottenham win tonight and celebrate by taking selfies in the dressing room like Arsenal did last time!

Aspen: I like how Emery is willing to avoid a subpar Ozil in his squad. Ozil needs to adapt or leave. I’ve defended him a lot, but times up for him. For the salary he’s earning, social media status is not enough. Ramsey is levels above in terms of pro attitude.

Sergio: Somethings I don’t like: Granit Xhaka at centre-back. Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have no chemistry, where the heck is Mesut Ozil?!

Thanks for your list of dislikes, Sergio. Always appreciated…

Silverware for Pochettino?

19:05: The Carabao Cup is Emery’s first chance to lift a trophy in English football – whereas Pochettino is also waiting for his first silverware as a coach.

That will add every more intrigue into Wednesday night’s encounter, with a place in the semi-finals keeping trophy ambitions alive until the new year.

Pochettino has often written off the Carabao Cup as he aims for success in higher-regarded competitions but there has to be a time when he needs to get his hands on a trophy.

Rapid revenge mission

19:00: Arsenal came out on top when the rivals met at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League earlier this month.

A Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace was added to by efforts from Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torriera as Emery secured a 4-2 win over close friend Pochettino.

Tottenham’s opportunity to respond comes just 17 days later with both teams no doubt keen to move into the final four of the competition.

Edge…

18:55: Arsenal have won seven of their previous 13 League Cup meetings with Tottenham (D3 L3), including the most recent two (2010-11 and 2015-16).

Team news

18:50: Mesut Ozil has been left out AGAIN for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with north London rivals Tottenham.

The German was a substitute in Sunday’s 3-2 loss at Southampton but does not feature against Spurs as the Gunners contend with a host of defensive injuries.

It’s said the reason is purely tactical and not an injury.

Harry Kane was on the bench for Spurs as he battled with a cold, in what was an otherwise strong team, with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min all starting.

Starting XI…

18:45: And here are the line-ups folks. As you can probably see – Harry Kane doesn’t start for the visitors, while Unai Emery starts with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal XI: Cech, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Xhaka, Monreal, Torreira, Guendouzi, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Iwobi, Aubameyang.

Subs: Martinez, Koscielny, Lichtsteiner, Elneny, Willock, Lacazette, Nketiah.

Tottenham XI: Gazzaniga, Trippier, Alderweireld, Davies, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Lucas, Son.

Subs: Vorm, Foyth, Walker-Peters, Skipp, Lamela, Llorente, Kane.

Backache for Emery

18:43: The Gunners saw a 22-match unbeaten run come to an end with a 3-2 defeat at Southampton on Sunday.

Emery had only one fit recognised centre-back in Laurent Koscielny – himself only just back from a seven-month injury lay-off.

Some of those defensive issues will be eased as Sokratis Papastathopoulos is back from suspension but Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi and Konstantinos Mavropanos are all missing – with full-backs Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac also unavailable.

Southampton took advantage of a makeshift back-three and no doubt Tottenham’s attackers will also be licking their lips at the prospect.

Twitter round-up

Daniel: Looking forward to another north London derby – would be nice if we could turn them over twice inside a month! Come on you Gooners!

Jazz: My last live north London derby was 2002 at Highbury when Thierry Henry scored that goal and did that famous celebration. Hope it’s another famous one tonight!

Harriet: The only way is up for Spurs tonight. Don’t think we can get away with a sloppy win against Arsenal – so we NEED to play well, no excuses!

18:35: Hello everyone and welcome to the business end of the Carabao Cup.

And what a double bill to look forward to.
