Google Maps for Android just got a major boost and extra features

Google Maps is the American tech giant’s navigation software that is incredibly popular.

In fact, the app is by far the most popular on both iOS and Android devices, meaning it surpasses the likes of Waze and Apple Maps in terms of sheer monthly users, according to Statista.

The outlet insisted Google Maps had 154.4million monthly users in the US as of April, 2018.

Meanwhile, Waze and Apple Maps drew in a tally of 25.6million and 23.3million respectively.

The Mountain View firm regularly updates its software, adding new features and improvements.

The latest of these consists of a new sharing sheet for Android platforms.

Back in November, Dave Burke, the vice president of engineering for Android, stated Google was working on a new sharing sheet for the operating system that would be “much faster and nicer to use”.

He tweeted: “We’re working on a redesign with a different underlying data model (push vs pull) that will be much faster and nicer to use.”

But now Google Maps has received the new share sheet in question that appears to be speedier and more intuitive for users.

The new page flaunts Google’s signature Material Theme aesthetic with white colours and rounded corners.

Not only does the page load faster than before, but it now allows users to type into a search box the person they want to share with.

Moreover, two rows are present that suggest both contacts and applications that can be used to share the item in question.

Furthermore, the page also clarifies which account the user is sharing from at the bottom.

And the location that is being shared is highlighted at the top along with a new button that allows the user to share other places instantly.

The new share sheet appears to be arriving on Android hardware widely.
