Cristiano Ronaldo reveals transfer offers and explains Man Utd and Juve differences

Ronaldo, 33, left Real Madrid after nine years at the Bernabeu to chance his arm in Italy this season.

The Portugal international signed a £106m, four-year contract in Turin, costing the Italian giants a £105m transfer fee.

Ronaldo had been wanted back at Manchester United, while Real were initially desperate to keep him at the club.

And the forward has revealed in an interview with Corriere dello Sport why he choice Juve despite other offers being on the table.

“I had several offers to leave Madrid,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“I’ll never say which ones, but Juventus are a solid club. They have so much history. Two Champions League Finals, seven League titles…

“I knew the atmosphere of their stadium.

“I’d played in Italy several times before, a couple of times against Juventus.

“I felt a connection and then everything else.

“I couldn’t be 100 percent sure that I was joining the best club in the world, given I spent nine years at , but I’m 100 per cent sure I made the right decision at the right time.”

Ronaldo has thrived in Italy, scoring 10 goals in 15 Serie A games so far.

But his time in Turin has been marred by rape allegations stemming back from 2009 – which he denies – and controversy over his wages.

FIAT – a company owned by the Agnelli family which also runs Juve – agreed to effectively sponsor part of Ronaldo’s transfer from Real, in order to help Juve cover his astronomical wages.

A number of workers at FIAT were unhappy at the decision to pump money into a footballer.

also failed to win the Ballon d’Or this year – the first time sine 2007 neither he nor Lionel Messi was granted the award.

But the forward is hopeful that he can return to the top of world football in his new surroundings this season.

“Juve are different to everyone else in many ways, even in the way they treat me. Small details make a big difference,” he added.

“However, I prefer to emphasise similarities. Manchester United, Real and Juve are the top teams in their respective countries, but here the roads are divided.

“Italian teams, for example, tend to defend more on the field, while things are much more relaxed away from football in Spain.

“In Italy, the concentration, dedication and commitment are greater. At the end of the day, the level is similar.”
