Facebook login and sign up: Can you have more than one Facebook account? How to create one

Your profile is supposed to be a digital representation of yourself, your interests and your friends.

Facebook profiles can represent individual people as well as businesses, media personalities and public figures.

Some people however like to distinguish between their private online dealings and their publicly visible online profiles.

So it is possible to have multiple Facebook accounts to represent you online?

Can you have more than one Facebook account?

Although it is possible to create multiple profiles, it breaks Facebook’s rules to maintain more than one personal account at any given time.

There are ways in which you can maintain two profiles from one account, such as a dedicated Facebook Page, but you should not create a second or third account for yourself.

Facebook said: “Facebook is a community where people use their authentic identities.

“It’s against the Facebook Community Standards to maintain more than one personal account.

“If you want to represent your business, organisation, brand or product on Facebook, you can use your personal account to create and manage a Page.

“Keep in mind that a personal profile is for non-commercial use and represents an individual person.”

If you are using your Facebook profile to represent someone other than yourself, Facebook recommends you convert it into a Page.

Similarly, if you are a public figure, you have the option of letting Facebook followers seeing your public posts on their timelines.

Facebook said: “You can have an unlimited amount of people following you, and you can follow up to 5,000 people.

“You can have up to 5,000 friends on your personal account.”

How to create a Facebook account

More than one billion people have signed up to Facebook since the platform was born in 2004 and you too can join those ranks.

You can have your Facebook account up and running in just a few minutes by heading over to Facebook.com and clicking on “Create New Account”.

When creating a new Facebook account, you will have to provide Facebook with a number of personal details to build your profile.

You will have to provide your first name, last name, mobile number or email address and create a password.

After that, Facebook will ask you to enter your date of birth and gender.

When you hit the big green Sign Up button you agree to Facebook’s terms of service, which you should read through before you agree.

You will then have to fill out the rest of Facebook’s forms, giving you a chance to fill out your hobbies, like some pages and follow some people.

When creating your new Facebook account you will want to upload a nice profile picture for the world to see.

Depending on the details provided, Facebook will recommend friends of yours to add on Facebook.

Then you can start posting to your timeline and check in on your friends to see what they are up to.
