Michael Schumacher latest: Nephew David hailed as NEW name for family DYNASTY

Michael’s story in Formula 1 – who went on to win seven Driver’s World Championship titles, has seen his nephew excelling in racing driving and continuing the family name.

David’s father Ralf Schumacher also won the 2007 F1 World Championship title.

But young driver David, who graduated from riding go karts this year, is hot on the heels of his famous uncle and father, won the ADAC Formula 4 cup last month.

He spent the season competing with his Ralf’s co-owned US Racing-CHRS team, training with his father twice a day as he prepared to rise the ranks of professional racing, having won the “rookie crown” at Hoffenheim in August.

David told The Checkered Flag: “The title was my objective from the beginning of the year, and now I’ve done it. I’m obviously very happy about that; in fact, I’m overjoyed.”

His father, Ralf, also commented: “His development has proceeded at a steady pace, and he has been on a steep learning curve.

“Towards the end, he has been one of the fastest drivers in the field, which is in any case already very strong.

“Of course, it’s very gratifying for me personally. My main focus has not so much been on winning the title, but rather on David’s personal development.”

But David has ended the year with silverware and super licence points and – unlike his aspiring cousin Mick – a title to his name.

David said: “In addition, I’m getting ready to do the test for my driving licence right now. Of course, it’s a bit more boring on the road than on the racetrack.”

Michael Schumacher’s own son, Mick, is currently on course to win the European F3 championships, having already won two seasons in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, sparking high hopes for the continuation of the family name.

The racing legend was, statistically, the greatest racing driver Formula 1 had ever seen.

But the legend suffered a traumatic head injury five years ago in 2013.

The beloved Formula 1 legend was skiing off-piste with his son at the Meribel ski resort in France in December 2013 when the accident occurred.

Michael Schumacher has continued to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation privately since leaving the Lausanne hospital, but where is not completely clear.

Official updates from Schumacher’s family have been incredibly scarce following the incident. But reports earlier this month claimed he could have been taken to the US to receive specialist treatment near Texas, where Schumacher owns a ranch.

And earlier this year, it was claimed wife Corinna – who Schumacher married in 1995 – was reported to have bought a £27million mansion in Andratx, Majorca, where Michael would be moved to.

Katia Rouarch, mayor of Andratx, Majorca, told Swiss news magazine L’Illustre the German Formula 1 driver would be moving to the area.

She said: “I can officially confirm Michael Schumacher is going to move in to our municipality and that everything is being prepared to welcome him.”

But the family denied the move, and said: “The Schumacher family does not plan to move to Majorca.”
