Ryder Cup: Patrick Reed lays into Jordan Spieth in scathing attack on USA team-mates

Thomas Bjorn captained Europe to an emphatic 17.5-10.5 victory which was spearheaded by the impressive Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood.

USA were the pre-tournament favourites to defend their Ryder Cup trophy but their big stars failed to perform in Paris.

Reed was one of the biggest let downs for the visitors, winning just one point from three matches.

The 28-year-old was paired with Tiger Woods during the weekend but he was furious at not playing alongside former partner Spieth and being benched for two sessions.

Woods and fellow captain’s pick Phil Mickelson failed to win a single point in the five matches they played between them.

And Reed thinks Jim Furyk got his pairings wong.

“The issue’s obviously Jordan not wanting to play with me,” Reed said.

“I don’t have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works.

“He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.”

Reed then took aim at USA skipper Jim Furyk for dropping him from the two foursomes events.

“For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice,” he fumed.

“Every day I saw, ‘Leave your egos at the door’. They [Europe] do that better than us.”

Meanwhile team-mate Phil Mickelson, who struck the shot into the water which consequently led to Europe picking up their winning point, defended Fury’s decision to drop out-of-form Reed.

“Some of you might question some of the decisions, but everything was done with reason, input, thought through,” he said.

“And then it’s up to us to execute, and we didn’t.”

But upon hearing Mickelson’s comments that the USA players had an input into the selection process, Reed raged further.

“I was looking at him [Spieth] like I was about to light the room up like Phil in ’14,” Reed said.
