The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not yet issued any advice.
The US Geological Society said the earthquake struck at a depth of 6.2 miles at 10.20am BST.
It comes nearly a year to the day after Mexico City was rocked by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, that ripped through the country’s capital.
The earthquake, which struck on September 19, 2017, killed 370 people and injured more than 6,000 others.
