Man Utd news: Noel Gallagher reveals the one difference between United and Manchester City

That is the verdict of Manchester City fan and British singer and songwriter Noel Gallagher.

City ran away with the Premier League title last season, finishing 19 points clear of United in second.

Pep Guardiola’s side are once again favourites to lift the trophy this term, with United fifth favourites after losing two of their first three games.

And Gallagher says wise business in the transfer market in recent years has put City ahead of their rivals.

“City have bought incredibly well,” he told talkSPORT.

“Even the squad players are amazing.

“United have just gone for expensive players.

“They went after (Alexis) Sanchez because City were after him, they went after Fred because City were after him, they went after (Paul) Pogba because everyone else was after him.

“There doesn’t seem to be any plan there where they are buying players for the future. That is the big difference.

“Nobody was after Bernardo Silva, nobody was after (Leroy) Sane – people laughed when we bought Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker.”

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure for his job at Old Trafford.

And as an avid City supporter, Gallagher is enjoying watching United struggle.

“He (Mourinho) seems to be sinking at the minute and if he’s asking for the press to give him more respect, then this is the start of him unravelling,” Gallagher continued.

“When I was growing up and Liverpool were the best team in the 80s, you couldn’t even envisage they would go 20-odd years without winning the league.

“In the 90s when United were winning three in a row and Champions Leagues, and doubles and trebles, you couldn’t envisage United going 10 minutes without winning the league, but it does happen.

“Since (Sir Alex) Ferguson left United, which was a great day for British football, I think it is all beginning to unravel now and I am just going to sit back and watch it with great pleasure.”
