Epic Games has just launched the new content update for Fortnite, several hours before their usual update time.
The game developers announced they would be rolling in the new update today, August 28, returning to their usual format of launching new content on a Tuesday, but have brought the new patch in much earlier than usual.
The new v5.3 content update will bring a new Shockwave Grenade to Fortnite, as well as several major changes to the game.
Fortnite’s content updates are usually accompanied by some significant downtime, but will that happen again today?
Is there any Fortnite downtime?
Epic Games tweeted out late last night that there would be no downtime for the content update today. The developers said announced the client update for 6am BST (1am ET) today but confirmed they would not be taking the servers down to update the game.
Usually, Fortnite stays offline for roughly three hours during a major content update, but today appears to be different.
Once you fire up your Fortnite game, the update should automatically load and you can jump straight back in.
This update is thought to not need any downtime because it isn’t bringing in a heap of new content, but rather improving the quality and performance of the content already in the game.
Epic Games tweeted they will be bringing in a performance update to the Nintendo Switch which improves matchmaking.
What is in Fortnite patch v5.3 update?
The biggest update to Fortnite in the new patch is the Shockwave Grenade, which is teased in an in-game pop-up when players launch the game.
The grenade will apparently grant immunity to fall damage, which will be helpful when taking out your enemies.
Alongside this, EpicGames will be removing the Wingman Starter Pack, giving players one more chance to purchase the outfit and Bogey Back Bling for $.99 – or 600 V-Bucks.
Lastly, Epic Games has removed the current Limited Time Mode (LTM) which was Score Royale.
