Roger Federer reveals which fancy dress costume he chose for birthday celebrations

Federer skipped the Rogers Cup last week to rest ahead of his return to action at the Cincinnati Open.

Rafael Nadal won the Toronto competition in Federer’s absence but the Swiss star was not too fussed as he was instead enjoying quality time with his family.

But instead of doing anything too flashy, the 20-time Grand Slam winner opted for a quieter day which involved a fancy dress night.

Federer says he dressed up as Superman, while his wife Mirka donned a Wonder Woman costume.

His two pair of twins also copied their attire as they enjoyed a joyous evening filled with cake.

“My wife and everybody asked me what I wanted to do,” Federer explained.

“But I just wanted to keep it simple and super relaxed. 37 isn’t 40, it isn’t 50, it isn’t the big one.

”Let’s just keep it simple, I have enough busy days in my life. Let’s not make a big scene about it.

“I had a super funny cake they created for me. I was on the cake playing tennis with my wife and all four kiddies.

“I remember my calf was so big – I was really proud of my calf muscles on the cake.

“We had an easy time and in the evening we had a dress up so we looked very funny and cute.

“They wanted me to dress up as Superman and Mirka was Wonder Woman and all the kiddies were Super Man and Wonder Women too.

“She looked amazing and I looked like a Superman coming from the beach.”

Federer returns to action tonight when he takes on Peter Gojowczyk at midnight.
