Indonesia earthquake: ‘PANICKED’ tourists are left terrified after shock TSUNAMI WARNING

A British tourist has claimed that everyone on Bali and Lombok island is “nervous” as they wait to see the 7.0-magnitude earthquake’s afterschocks, amid fears of a deadly tsunami.

A powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck 10.5 kilometers off the north coast of Lombok at depth of 15km (9.3 miles) at 11.46pm local time (12.40pm UK time).

Minutes after registering the quake, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics issued a shock tsunami warning.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency confirmed that the latest quake has the potential to trigger a devastating tsunami.

However, hours later, Indonesian authorities lifted the tsunami warning, adding that small waves just 15 centimeters high were detected in three villages.

The earthquake was felt on Bali and Lombok, just a week after a quake hit the latter island, killing 17 people.

Officials have urged everyone on the popular tourist islands to move away from the ocean in case a tsunami strikes.

Dwikorita Karnawati, head of the agency for meteorology, climatology and geophysics, told local TV: “Please go to a place with higher ground while remaining calm and not panicking.

Pauliina Purnell, a newsroom manager at Sky News who was on holiday in Bali with her family, said that tourists on the popular resort island were “all still nervous”.

She said: “My family and I were just hanging out when the walls started shaking. We had a pool next to our window, and the pool water was just flying upwards.

“We panicked, and we immediately stood under a door frame when the worst of the shaking happened. We then ran towards a rice field outside.”

“Everyone is still quite jittery and nervous waiting for an aftershock and potential tsunami.”

Michelle Lindsay, an Australian tourist, added: “All the hotel guests were running so I did too. People filled the streets.

Many other tourists have taken to social media to recount the terrifying earthquake experience.

Stuart McDonald said: “Easily biggest quake I’ve ever felt. We’re ok, in garden. Jeez.”

Model Christine Teigen, who is in Bali, posted on Twitter in the aftermath of the tremor: “Bali. Trembling. So long.”

She had moments earlier written: “MASSIVE earthquake.”

Indonesia sits along the volatile Ring of Fire – a hotspot for volcano eruptions and earthquakes encircling the Pacific Ocean.
