Trump Mueller investigation: President ATTACKS counsel’s ‘alleged conflicts of interest’

The US President vented his frustration at the investigator in a series of tweets, where he attacked the special counsel’s credibility.

Trump wrote: “Is Robert Mueller ever going to release his conflicts of interest with respect to President Trump, including the fact that we had a very nasty and contentious business relationship, I turned him down to head the FBI (one day before appointment as S.C.) and former FBI Director James Comey is his close friend.”

There is currently an investigation into the possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia during the 2016 election, which is led by Robert Mueller.

The American firebrand claimed there has been no collusion between his campaign and Russia and therefore contradicted his own intelligence agencies.

US intelligence services have concluded Russian agents had attempted to influence the election in Trump’s favour through a coordinated campaign of fake news and social media bots.

So far 32 individuals and three companies have been indicted as part of the probe.

Five of these individuals have pleaded guilty, including three former Trump advisors, although none of the crimes they have admitted to directly relate to collusion with Russia.

However, Trump has alleged on multiple occasions via Twitter that Mr Mueller has conflicts of interest.

In January, the New York Times reported that Trump listed three conflicts he believes should disqualify Mr Mueller: a dispute over fees at Trump’s National Golf Club in Virginia, his interview for FBI director before becoming special counsel, and Mr Mueller’s previous employment at a law firm that represents Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The American firebrand also falsely claimed the special counsel’s probe was sparked by the “Steele dossier”, and questioned why Mr Mueller was not investigating Democrats.

He wrote: “There is No Collusion!

“The Robert Mueller rigged witch hunt, headed now by 17 (increased from 13, including an Obama White House lawyer) angry Democrats, was started by a fraudulent dossier, paid for by crooked Hillary and the DNC.

“Therefore, the witch hunt is an illegal scam!”

The President has branded Mr Mueller’s investigation a “witch hunt” and a “hoax” with increasing regularity in the past few months.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is set to go on trial this week as part of the probe.
