Khan’s party spokesman, Farad Chaudhry, showed confidence as the early projections were broadcast, saying in a tweet: “Congratulations to the nation on a new Pakistan! Prime Minister Imran Khan.”

The 65-year-old politician said this election was the “most important” in Pakistan’s history after casting his vote in the capital Islamabad.

He was born in November 1952 and is well known for playing professional cricket for more than 20 years.

Khan is a famous personality around the world because of his social work for humanity.

He is also a cricket commentator, philanthropist and chancellor of Bradford University.

Khan is the most successful captain in the history of Pakistan cricket.

He played cricket for Pakistan from 1972 to 1992 and served as captain from 1982 to 1992.

Last month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the asset details of PTI chairman Khan.

The PTI chief has declared before the electoral body that he holds net assets worth Rs 38 million (£419,000).

In an affidavits seen by Dawn.com his net assets as of June 30 of the current financial year are Rs 38,694,493 (£427,000).

Over the past year he earned Rs 4,776,611 (£53,000) and paid Rs 103,763 (£1,144) in taxes.

His other income sources are agriculture, he owns 168 acres of agriculture land, and MNA’s salary, PCB pension and bank profit.

The cricketer-turned-politician has two dollar accounts holding $379,760 (£288,000) and $1,470 (£1,114) and one pound account which holds £7,068. He also has Euro account, however it is empty.

The papers stated he owns 14 properties within Pakistan, most of which are stated as “inherited”.

His Bani Gala residence is stated to be worth Rs 11,471,000 (£127,000), however his documents do not state ownership of any foreign real estate.
