Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 NEW director: Here’s who’s most likely to replace James Gunn

The Studios director has been fired by Disney over controversial tweets from a decade ago containing jokes on subjects like rape and paedophilia.

Gunn had already penned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and was ready to start shooting the Marvel sequel this autumn for a 2020 release.

However with his dismissal fans are now wondering who could take on project when he helmed the last two movies.

Well it looks like there are two very likely choices in Taika Waititi and The Russo Brothers.

Taika Waititi

The Kiwi comedian directed Thor Ragnarok last year and in many ways would be a perfect fit for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

The main reason being that Ragnarok was very similar in tone, style and setting to the Guardians films.

Both are very funny, brightly coloured and solely set in the cosmic part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – i.e. not Earth.

Having proven his talent with Ragnarok, it would make a lot of sense for Waititi to take on the film having already shown he can handle a threequel.

The director gave a unique and fresh spin on some much loved character, plus .

Right now Waititi’s shooting Jojo Rabbit, but afterwards could be free take on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

The Russo Brothers

They’ve directed Captain America: The Winter Solider, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War and are now editing Avengers 4.

But most crucially of all, they’re the only other filmmakers who have directed the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Fans will remember Star Lord and his team showed up in Avengers Infinity War and the Russos certainly did a great job comedically and emotionally with the characters.

And next year with Avengers 4 being released, they’ll be on equal footing with Gunn in terms of Guardians of the Galaxy movies under their belts.

The Russos have certainly directed some of the MCU’s very best films and would be a safe choice for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 moving forwards.
