The tech giant has given its desktop client a vital feature for anyone working in an office environment.
Google Maps’ web version now has a “time to leave” feature that will alert the user to get moving.
The maps service will sync with Google Calendar, taking the location of the user on the desktop client and matching it to where the next event is on their calendar.
Google will then strategically map out the quickest route to the user’s destination and notify them when they should leave.
The functionality, first spotted by Android Police, is already available on the mobile application of Google Maps for both Android and iOS.
But forgetting to glance at your phone during office time can easily be forgiven.
The new feature appears to be designed so the user does not miss a mobile notification and end up running late.
To enable the feature all a user has to do is press the menu button in the left hand corner of the screen, then click on notifications.
The user will then be greeted with an switch to trigger “time to leave”.
It is unknown how long the new feature has been in place for.
The Silicon Valley behemoth put notifications onto the desktop version of Google Maps at the start of the year, however these notifications could be easily ignored or turned off.
But the new notifications feature more prominently on the user’s screen and are not dismissed unless the user choses to do so.
Making the user manually remove the notification will surely increase the likelihood of them seeing the alert and arriving on time.
Users have to be signed into their Google account to make the most of this new feature.
