Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are meeting in Helsinki today for high-profile talks 

Mr Trump began the talks by congratulating the Russian president on his country’s hosting of the World Cup. 

The US leader said: “First of all Mr President, I’d like to congratulate you on a really great World Cup.” 

Mr Trump also said he hopes for a better relationship with the Russian leader, after tensions spilled over following the 2016 US election. 

US intelligence had accused Russia of interfering in the US election, swaying the outcome in Mr Trump’s favour. 

This is something Moscow has always denied.

According to the official Kremlin website, the two leaders “will discuss Russian-US relations and their further development, as well as current international matters.”

How much is Vladimir Putin worth? 

One of the most high profile world leaders, Mr Putin is no stranger to flashing his expensive assets. 

His “Palace on the Idokopas Cape” in Gelendzhik cost a reported $1billion (£752,865,000) to build and sits on a vast 67-hectare estate overlooking the Black Sea. 

Another extravagance is his $500million (£376,432,500) yacht named Graceful is one in a fleet of yachts said to be owned by the Russian president. 

Despite these flashy assets, the true extent of Mr Putin’s wealth remains a mystery. 

Forbes, who compiles the annual rich list, won’t estimate Putin’s net worth, as they cannot verify his financial assets say Newsweek. 

Forbes methodology for collating the rich lists: “We value individuals’ assets–including stakes in public and private companies, real estate, yachts, art and cash–and take into account estimates of debt. 

“We also consult an array of outside experts in various fields.”

However, a Forbes spokesman told Newsweek: “Vladimir Putin is not on the list because we have not been able to verify his ownership of assets worth $1 billion or more”. 

How much does he earn as Russia’s President?

Despite his overall wealth being a mystery, Mr Putin’s annual salary was publicly released by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.

His average yearly salary for being president stands at £84,320.88 ($112,000).

This came to light as Mr Putin was required to disclose his earnings to register for the Presidential Election in March this year. 

Mr Putin won this election with 77 percent of the vote, granting him a second consecutive term in office.
