Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson LIVE: Wimbledon final updates direct from Centre Court

Djokovic has finally put his injury woes behind him and is gunning for his fourth title at the All England Club.

The Serbian came through an epic five-set battle with Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals and is now one step away from his 13th Grand Slam title.

Big-serving Anderson is the man who stands in Djokovic’s way, and the South African will be full of confidence, especially after knocking out top seed Roger Federer.

Former world No 1 Djokovic remains the favourite to lift the trophy, but he has played down his chances.

“I don’t know if I’ll be the clear favourite in that one,” he said.

“I think we’re quite even. He’s playing I think his second Grand Slam finals. He played the US Open finals last year.

“He’s definitely playing the tennis of his life. He’s coming off from two epic marathon five-set wins.

“I don’t think he has much to lose really tomorrow. He’s going to come out with big serves and big tennis.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to weather the storm.”

The crowd get right behind Anderson as he tries to get back into the match. A pair of aces enables him to settle a little with a 40-love lead.

But a rash shot, which seemed to come off the side of the racket, allows Djokovic back in the game.

The Serb wins the next point to pile on more pressure and Anderson crumbles – overhitting during the next rally for deuce.

A double fault and let (caused by the ball falling out of his pocket) sums up Anderson’s luck.

But he finally wins a baseline rally after 15 shots and then serves out to hold. Progress.

The atmosphere is surprisingly quite flat with Djokovic cruising through the match.

The first set was over after 32 minutes and this one is looking like beating that.

Novak Djokovic 6-2 1-0 Kevin Anderson*

Anderson receives a massage from the trainer during the switch around. It looks like he has a slight problem with his left bicep.

That could explain why he has underperformed in the opening set but you cannot count him out. He lost the first set against Federer 6-2 and managed to turn it around over a remarkable five sets.

But this is a reinvigorated Djokovic who is desperate to end a two-year wait for a Grand Slam title and he breaks in the opening game again.

The Serbian takes a 15-40 lead then challenges an out call after firing a deep shot from the baseline. The decision is reversed and Djokovic breaks for a third time in the match.

*Novak Djokovic 6-2 Kevin Anderson

Djokovic serves and volleys the first point but then hits a forehand into the net to level at 15-all. An unreturned serve puts the Seb back ahead and Anderson slices into the net for two set points.

Another unforced error hands Djokovic the first set on a plate.

The former world No 1 returns to his chair to a standing ovation and he has not had to break out of second gear yet.

Novak Djokovic 5-2 Kevin Anderson*

To give an example of how much Anderson is underperforming, he has only just served his first ace of the game.

Given, the deadly delivery has kept his faint first-set hopes alive, although he is two breaks down.

*Novak Djokovic 5-1 Kevin Anderson

This is way too comfortable for Djokovic as he eases himself to within one game of the first set.

Every rare point Anderson wins he lets out a ‘come one!’ It seems like he’s trying to settle his nerves by convincing himself he is playing well – but he isn’t.

Novak Djokovic 4-1 Kevin Anderson*

Anderson is really struggling to control the rallies and makes a couple of unforced errors to put Djokovic love-30 up.

The South African wins the next point but then passes into the net to gift Djokovic two break points.

And the No 12 seed takes the first opportunity he is given as Anderson volleys the ball into the net.

*Novak Djokovic 3-1 Kevin Anderson

Djokovic races to 40-love but Anderson gets a point back and tries to jeer himself on with a ‘come on’ accompanied with a fist-pump.

But the Serbian holds serve by winning the next rally.

Novak Djokovic 2-1 Kevin Anderson*

Anderson is looking nervy in the early exchanges but he gets himself on the board with a couple of unreturned serves.

*Novak Djokovic 2-0 Kevin Anderson

Djokovic drops only one point as he takes a 2-0 lead inside seven minutes.

Novak Djokovic 1-0 Kevin Anderson*

Anderson wins the first point but is pegged back instantly. The same happens again for 30-30 before Anderson sends a forehand too long to hand Djokovic the first break point.

And oh no! Anderson double faults to gift Djokovic the early advantage!

2pm: The players walk out on court to a standing ovation. Play will get underway in around 10 minutes time.

1.30pm: Djokovic will have to keep his emotions in check this afternoon after having a few runnings with umpires throughout the tournament.

And Tim Henman has just explained why the Serb was so annoyed in a couple of matches.

“He was getting flustered by the crowd but now I re-evaluate that it was the fire in his belly,” Henman told the BBC.

“He has got the motivation and he will certainly fancy his chances.”

1pm: We’re creeping closer to the start now with only an hour to go.

Excitement is really starting to build as Henman Hill is filling nicely and spectators begin to make their way up here to Centre Court.

12.30pm: It’s absolutely roasting down in south London and we are forecast a high of 29 degrees.

The heat and humidity could be another factor in swaying this tie either way.

12noon: Good afternoon and welcome to the Wimbledon final!

What a two weeks we have had at the All England Club and it now comes down to Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson.

Both players came through marathon semi-final clashes which lasted over five and a half hours so it will be interesting to see if that takes any toll on the outcome.

Anderson had Saturday to rest while Djokovic continued his battle with Nadal, so that could also play into the hands of the South African, although he is the underdog.

The match will get underway at 2pm so stay tuned for all the build-up, action and reaction direct from Centre Court!
